3 Players With a Golden Opportunity

I think the plan will be, if we make the switch inside, to go Samson-McCoy-RR-Cantwell-Hawks. I don’t see us substituting out two inexperienced sophomores for two true freshmen.

I don’t see how Wiley doesn’t get snaps. At the Wake game there were only 6 LB’S that traveled. Smith, Toure, Pruitt, Marcelin, Wiley and a walk on. Obviously Wiley is next man up.

You’re missing Bonner who played against Wake, and Wiley didn’t.

Mallory: 7 rushes for 23 yards (3.28 ypc)

Pringle: 4 rushes for 12 yards (3 ypc) and one 1 reception for 10 yards. Thus, Pringle averaged more yards per TOUCHES than Mallory.

RB who saved our season last year as a true freshman still gets disrespected all the time on here.

Hawks is not ready for prime time. Cantwell plays tackle before Hawks.

And he left yards out there with a couple soft runs. Good player but when talking about replacing Brow , we will need more from him. That aint disrespect, it's just a hard truth.

I can only go off our coaching staff’s actions. The 3 reserve linemen who have played in every game are Woodrow, Cantwell, and Hawks. Woodrow is obviously our backup center. We aren’t going to pull RR. Hawks might not be ready for primetime which is why i said if we bench the two inside guys. Before benching two guys, we will likely bench neither of them.

McCoy played LG last year, so that’d be the natural spot for him to play at if Max takes a backseat. When we put Cantwell in against Stanford, it was at RG. Same thing for FAMU. It was Cantwell at RG and Hawks at RT. I don’t expect that to be the next step we take, tho.

Against Stanford, we saw Samson-Max-RR-Cantwell-McCoy in the 2nd half. RG is going to be his freshman season position, and they want him to master it before kicking him outside to tackle.

The most likely escalation is to move to 6 man starting platoon; with Max and SJ (who both will get snaps every game, even if they are reduced) substituting for each other at LG just like we did in the 3rd quarter of the Stanford game.

Lmfao, he already replaced brown last year bud, even had games where he had more carries than Fletcher.

If anything, Pringle’s problem against Wake was his lack of patience and trying too hard to force himself thru gaps that were not there. Still, OLine did him no favors.


All Mallory’s running ‘hard,’ as you describe it, was good for an extra 0.28 yards per carry despite having nearly double the rushing attempts.

(1) Jordan Lyle - sometimes we forget that Lyle was RB1 going into the ND game last year. He’s shown flashes of what he’s capable of. The biggest thing Miami missing with Brown out is his blocking. His rushing yards can be replaced. As for the WR's if Barkate could get 1000 yards last year he should be able to come close to that this year. Time for Dawson to figure that out. Bodies at WR not a problem. Last the O line guard problem has to be fixed. Clearly time to make a change at guard. *** meet bench might help fix it.

Im surprised we havent seen more 50/50 balls thrown Barkate's way. It seemed like him and Mensah made a living off that and backshoulder when Barkate stacks the DB. Mali runs to space. Barkate made his bones in close contact

Nothing against Pringle but I had people on here telling me he was better than Marty Brown. There’s an argument there. Now if people are saying Mallory is better I think we have to put a TBD there for now.
 
Breakout Potentials:

Barkate/Upshaw - need one of these guys to step up

Lyle - NEED him

Pruitt - would love to see him get more PT given 17 is out

They’re all good at different things. Marty is a vet tho. He redshirted year 1 at NDSU. He is the best redzone back and third down back.

Mallory is the most unknown. What i take umbrage with is the claim presented as a fact that one guy really showed out on Friday, and the other ran soft. When the numbers or eye test don’t back that up. How can one guy be soft for 22 yards on 5 touches while the other had 23 yards on 7 touches?

Moreover, Pringle is a weapon in the passing game so his runs aren’t his only use. This year he’s been the best receiving back and hopefully we use him more that way.

Against VT, we completely went away from both Marty and Fletcher in favor of Pringle for a reason. So it’s just funnystyle to act like these games never happened. Mallory and Lyle haven’t split 28 carries w/ Fletcher, Marty and themselves like Pringle did against Pitt and come out with nearly double the rushing yards.

If Pringle or CWH had the season Lyle had last year, no one would be expecting them to return and save our running back room. Pringle’s ypc, which was the highest in the RB room, nearly doubled Lyle’s ypc last season; and CWH had the same amount of rushing yards on 13 less carries.

Not quite sure what we have in Jacobs. Didnt watch his film at South Carolina. In his limited sample size, it seems he’s a one trick pony…go deep. I could see wingo stepping into the Moore role more than jacobs from what I’ve seen so far
