3 Players With a Golden Opportunity

We’ve had some rough injury luck these past few weeks. Thankfully, in areas where there is depth. Here’s three players who have an opportunity to break out.

(1) Jordan Lyle - sometimes we forget that Lyle was RB1 going into the ND game last year. He’s shown flashes of what he’s capable of. When Lyle went down, which was seen as devastating at the time, Marty Brown took that opportunity and ran with it. In a weird reversal, with Brown going down, Lyle now has that same opportunity.

(2) Dre Jacobs - WR1 with SCAR last year, Dre Jacobs has been WR5 this year. Miami still has a deep and talented WR room, but Jacobs has an opportunity for much more playing time.

(3) Soumarion Wingo - one of our best WR prospects in awhile, Wingo has had some great reps this year. He’ll have a great opportunity now to get more reps and make an impact.

Injuries suck, and we’re beat up right now but there’s a bright line here. We have depth and talent. Young guys need to step up. We also have a favorable schedule right now. CMU is a scrimmage and Clemson is terrible.

I’d add Cantwell, Congdon, Woodrow and Pickett to that list. One or two of these players will get a shot to earn a starting spot along the O-line.

The thing about Marty is he was our most complete back. So I am not sure he’s replaceable as far as the role he played. What is the book on Lyle as a receiver and a blocker?

I don’t see how Wiley doesn’t get snaps. At the Wake game there were only 6 LB’S that traveled. Smith, Toure, Pruitt, Marcelin, Wiley and a walk on. Obviously Wiley is next man up.

If Wingo is who I think he is, he’ll step up with a Freshman AA type performance. Any other team he’d have been starting already.

I have no doubt Wingo will be a dawg in the passing game. My worry is his blocking. Dude looks very slight out there.

We will miss Marty Brown. He's a glue guy. Hate it for both these kids but we have enough depth in the WR room to navigate the loss of Moore.

Time for the young backs to grow up tho. Looking at you Lyle. I'm talking to you Pringle who ran kinda soft the other night. Mallory might take their lunch if they aren't careful.

Lyle was day one starter vs ND last year. He can catch, he should be ok in Pass Pro, and he is just a few pounds smaller than Brown.

I’d say Mallory, Jacobs and/or Wingo, Cantwell, Woodrow, Big Ben, etc. **** man basically anyone who could replace the entire interior OL.
