2nd Half Where was OJ? Oconnor was a marked man

Xavier Lucas would like a word. Our defense played with so much juice with Lucas back.

I think it had more to do with press adjustments.. Belichik said we have the talent to press but we give too much free access throws, all their drives in first half started because we had corners at 10 yards and bailing.. it was embarrassing like we are bethune level corners..

Chicken/egg. They probably felt more confident playing up with Lucas on the field.

Agreed.. Unbelievable kid didnt shoot his shot.. It was RIGHT THERE.. I thought at first the ball was outside but he was right there for clean pick if he went for it, Mendoza knew it too.. sad

That’s the true difference between the legendary Canes teams and this one. We have great talent but not enough player makers. As the man said - Big time players make big time plays in big time games. Miami dropped 4 picks against ole **** and almost blew it (including a likelypick 6). Grab a couple of those and it is a blowout. O Connor almost singlehandedly wins Miami the championship if he makes that play. Like Scott putting the dagger in Ohio St. and they didn’t recover. I miss having ballhawks all over the secondary. To be clear don’t blame him for the L. He just missed his chance to be a legend.

If O’Connor gains 10-15 pounds of muscle

I believe O’Connor is a RS Soph. The secondary is YOUNG and very good. They’ll be better next season.

Lucas in the first half probably makes it’s a different game seemed like the whole secondary felt better in familiar roles… was Lucas even tried?

Also Brown in the portal? Because **** not even the natty game could he go??
Lmao brown is hurt

Yeah I thought everyone made way to big a deal about that at halftime. Had we pressed up with O'Conner in the first half they would have just went to the back shoulder against him, like they did in the second after OJ got hurt again, or worse tested him deep. I thought Hetherman was fine giving them the free access throws in the first, because had we given up any explosive scoring plays in the pass game we would have been cooked since we couldn't score any points at the time. Becker cooked that Oregon all-american freshman deep in man in the first half. We gave up just two plays of 20+ yards the entire game, and only one was a pass. Had we not committed 2 penalties on 3rd and long on the TD drive we'd have given up just 3 or 6 points in the first half. I don't get what the big deal was with giving them a handful of 8-12 yard throws considering they only scored 10 points and most of that was because of penalties, not the drop coverage.

He’s been great all year, maybe didn’t play great against Becker tonight

He was often in position to make the play and was always ultra aggressive, but he just doesn’t have the size to out-fight a tall, physical wr like Becker on those 50/50 balls. I’m definitely still high in the kid because he’s got really good cover skills. I just think that, tonight, he was given the worst possible assignment for the type of corner he is.

They were going after OJ the whole first half. I assume because they knew he was injured. I thought he played well. They were going after O'Conner the 2nd half and I thought he played pretty well. He had the Becker pass at the end covered about as well as he could. If only Marion was looking for the ball and came back to it when Beck threw it short. I only had one beer last night so it appears, I saw a different game than a lot of others, but I need to watch the tape. I just need to relax and enjoy the season for a few days first.
