When I looked at UM's most recent financials...I realized that my alma mater is now a hospital system...with an affiliated university...not the other way around...
By revenue.
It can be hard to figure out segment profitability in a not-for-profit university.
But that revenue....mother of god...
I'll let the not-for-profit medical system experts weigh in (and there is a prominent one on this board), but from what this "for-profit" tax guy can figure out from public documents...UHealth is doing VERY WELL right now...right @wspcane ?

Lol at the idea that they just started an AD search. They may be hiring a firm to vet candidates they already have in mind. If I was in there shoes I would do due diligence to make sure the guys I think I want are perceived as a good hires by others as well. Nobody is clever enough to figure this out on their own, especially nobody at Miami currently.

That was all I needed to hear. So the university was just being cheap. Well glad the national attention has finally lit a fire under them. Seems like finally we may actually be back on track to have some success. I always wondered why Miami appeared to be so far behind other schools with our brand seemingly much bigger nationally than most schools.

Truth. UHealth has been raking in the cash for the past 5 years (which, of course, is why Frenk was hired instead of the Admiral).
UM is a bit of a slow adult. It takes UM some time to catch on and do what needs to be done.

Not "cheap" in the classic sense. But we definitely need to change our standard operating procedure when it comes to separate revenue streams. "Athletic Department pays its own way" was fine 20 or 30 years ago. But now that revenue streams have changed...it's time to rethink the old models.
Again, let's not forget...when the "split-U" logo was created, it was for ATHLETICS. Now that same split-U logo is used for one of the largest health systems in the southeast. So maybe, JUST MAYBE, it's not such a crazy idea to kick some of that UHealth money over to the Athletic Department. Gaytorade still generates a ton of royalties for UF's science and athletic departments.
Time to get modern and creative with the caysh...
