It did. But mostly on "known candidates". Seems like some (now) may be favoring expanding the pool. Which is fine.

But we have too many fans who think that everything is black or white. The question of "did the process start a month ago or not" is not impacted by whether we decide, today, to hire a search firm. Both things can be true.

Or are they moving on from known targets because they didn’t want the job?

It could simply be a necessary outside resource for Executive hires to ensure i’s are dotted, t’s are crossed, rules are followed, parliamentary procedure and all that.

Blake should have been let go earlier. Now we are in a situation where we don't have an AD & hiring a coach without the next AD's input would likely severely limit your candidate pool.

Pair that with Mario likely playing into January, and our timing sucks.

I want Manny gone as much as the next guy, but at this point, what is one more year IF the administration is true to their word about spending money and doing it right? The class is already fvcked anyways.

Plus, there are a LOT of schools that are going to be looking for coaches this offseason. The price of the brick is going up, as evidenced by the Mel Tucker extension - good coaches are going to cost a lot and create bidding wars. I don't trust this administration in a bidding war against the LSU's of the world.

All I saying is, if it happens, hopefully waiting so long to fire Blake is the last ****up this administration makes before the athletic department is overhauled and competent people are installed.
Because we can’t take the admin at their word & one more year of Manny would stifle our recruiting even more than it is now.

I believe he’s definitely gone at the end of the season, but hypothetically in the event he’s not, keeping him an extra year would be the worse decision possible, because everyone knows he’s gone & it’s a 1,000% fact we would have another 6-6 type season.

If they can’t get Mario there’s still a bunch of really good options, if Mario doesn’t leave this year, he’s definitely not gonna leave next year either, so having a Mario or bust approach to hiring the next coach is really dumb.

Luckily for them, it appears they’re going to get Mario, but if they don’t, the last thing they should do is retain Manny, that would all but bury our recruiting in a highly decorated mausoleum till 2025. You can kiss the next two classes goodbye if Manny is still HC next season.

You don't Manny here cuz not only does that destroy 2022 class but 2023 too. Those 2023 prospects will know he's a lame duck coach on thin ice with strong odds of being fired and we'll be recruiting at a disadvantage. Rip the band aid off now and move forward.

Agreed but it was mentioned that the likelihood is they announce a hire within a month.

Doesn't seem plausible for that to happen if a search firm is just getting hired but I don’t know shi* and don’t know how this stuff really works.
Wondering if they have to say that so they can say they considered minority candidates?

Diaz possibly returning in 2022 has been mentioned in just about every podcast & article.

Someone wants that info out there. Why & what is the benefit? Fvk that!!!

Having Diaz come back is a no starter for me under any circumstance. If Mario says no, he’s not going to say yes next year. If he doesn’t come this year, he’s not coming here, period.

So move on and get the next best candidate. Don’t be afraid to take chances on some candidates with a checkered past (Kiffin or Freeze).

But in the end, you have to make Mario say yes no matter what it takes. All the chips have to be pushed in.

Let’s go!!
Not taking any chances then , I’m rooting for losses in these last two games

Remember when Miami was “broke” & “couldn’t afford it”??

Lol... We never have money for anything, now all of sudden we just found $25million just laying under the couch.

It just goes to show, that the people in charge have always had plenty of cash to fix the problem, they just never gave a sh*t, but now because one of their Aseres is available they’re willing to fork up the money smh.

Nothing worse than being greedy & willfully incompetent.

I mean...in all fairness...UHealth has finally outgrown its initial (over)payment price and is starting to make Scrooge McDuck money.

It's not couch-cushion money, but if we can hire a UM President who is even more football-friendly (and knowledgeable) than Julio, we might just have a newfound advantage.

How many other P5 programs literally own the largest health system in the largest urban area in the 3rd largest state in the country? It's a license to print money.

But, yeah, some people are still going to bash Shalala, no matter what logic and facts are presented.

Why you say that bruh

Yes, if the pool expands, so does the timeline for hiring (unless Tom Jurich has already drafted his acceptance letter).

But, again, defining the word "process" is tricky. Whatever the process was a month ago may not be the same as what it is today.

The process has started. But the process is also evolving.

What would be even worse than going 6-6 next year is getting a ****** coach for the next 4-5 years, then starting this cycle over again then. This might be the last chance to get it right.

I am assuming that there won't be as many openings after next season. Maybe the climate is just changing and CFB will become more like the NFL & NBA - win immediately or you are out. But more likely is that Covid rendered universities cash strapped, and combined with the conference realignments, not many moves were made last offseason.

I disagree that Mario not coming this year means he won't come next year. I can see a scenario where he wants his shot in the playoffs, which he may get this year - there are only a handful of active coaches that have coached in the CFP. Then say Oregon drops multiple games next szn. Why wouldn't he leave then?

But I get your point, generally speaking. And as I said, I want Manny gone yesterday. But getting the next hires 100% right is more important than next season, IMO.

There might be a riot on campus if Manny returns.
