Priority wide receiver target Tre Moore made a multi-day visit to Coral Gables to check out the Hurricanes. A 6-foot-4, 210-pound outside threat, Moore detailed what stands out about Miami in his recruitment — namely the culture and relationships at the ‘U’. A nationally desired recruit with schools such as Texas A&M, Texas and LSU involved in his recruitment, Miami is battling hard to make waves in Moore’s process. Here’s everything the Texas native had to say to CanesInSight following his visit.

On what he saw during his visit:

“It has been really good so far going to the practice, talking to all the coaches, meeting all these people. It has been really good.”

“I already knew everything about them, their culture. They have been starting this new culture and they are continuing to develop it. Even bringing in the transfers, I feel like the transfers are starting to really pick it up and get it down.”

On what he took away from his visit:

“I am feeling way better. I already felt good. It is just helping me come to the decision, comparing them to other schools, where my mind is going to be.”

On what stands out about Miami:

“The culture, the dogs, the people — It is really the people here.”

"That’s one thing I feel like there is a bad stigma about Miami, but there are really great people who care for their players here.”

On the top schools in his process:

“LSU, Texas, Miami, Texas A&M, and Washington.”

“I’ve visited Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, and this is my fourth one.”

Ohio State and LSU are next for his unofficial visits

On his commitment timeline:

“My process is I am committing at the end of June after official visits, that is my timeline.”

“[The difference maker is] the place I feel most at home.”

On what coaches like about his game:

“My versatility, how I can play everywhere. You can put me inside, outside, both sides.”

What “bad stigma“ is he talking about regarding Miami? Usually when people say **** like this, it’s because they’ve picked it up from other coaches at other schools. Kind of sounds like he’s bought into negativity, at least a some extent. Just wish I knew what specifically he was talking about.

He’s from the Austin area so I’d think pretty low between the Texas schools, all with plenty of money, but then I see this so maybe???

Yeah, who knows, but people have been in his ear, and not in a good way, about Miami.

That’s recruiting, I know, everybody does this. But for him to bring it up, means he internalized it as @Trav said. Hopefully, if he’s a top priority, we can overcome this.

Weird. I hate that quote. Onto guys who want to be Canes. Like wtf. The only campus I have seen anywhere near as nice as UM is SMU. And thats like 5 hours to the coast. Miami is also an elite private university. Not sure what “bad stigma” he could be talking about.

Is the stigma from that bad old swagger days -- 25-40 years ago still around? That's a long, long time ago. Of is it the two decades of embarrassing football? Or the image of the city from the Cocaine Cowboys era?
I can't figure it out.

Facts. But I think he’s probably talking about the stigma on the city of Miami and not the school. Everybody and they moms use the city of Miami (crime, crowds, violence, and “hoods”) against tge University when it comes to recruiting. For recruits that have never been to UM, all they hear is negative. They have these kids thinking the U is sitting right across the street from the Pork and Beans projects.
