Simmons has the arm talent, athletic ability & mental acuity under pressure to be a guy that can lead a team even without elite talent surrounding him.

Assuming Locksley gets fired this year, Malik could be a real possibility. Can’t imagine in malis draft year we go with an unproven guy
 
I have to imagine many of quarterbacks will be wanting to come to Miami. Cam Ward, Beck and now Mensah type of **** does not go unnoticed. Add to that Mali being here as a junior and a Natty roster in general, Mario may have no choice if you get interest from guys who may be significantly better than what we have now. Before Mensah’s Duke season, I don’t recall him being on any significant radars so who knows who pops up by season’s end. HAVE to leave options open UNLESS you have a Tebow and Cam Newton situation and that we do not have. We don’t have an Arch Manning talent on the bench as was the case for Texas two years ago.
 
Ideal outcome?
1. Mensah. He has eligibility, and if he chooses to stay for some dumb reason after winning the Natty and Heisman because he has a <1st round grade.... make it happen Mario, use your cia skills to plant some fake evidence that he wont be a 1st rounder!

2a. Mestemaker
2b. JKS

I mean I doubt either of those happen, but they'd be my next ideal outcome

3. Demond Williams

This seems like the most obvious solution possible as of now. He has low Draft outlook imo, and Washington looks like they kinda suck and he already tried entering the portal. He'd fit with us.

4. Braden Atkinson, Malik Washington or Austin Simmons, Mason Heintschel …. And probably in that order.

Interesting thing to note - Nebraskas offense without Raiola and with Collandre… hmmm. Lowers Raiola in my eyes tbh

These guys have a chance to prove we don't need a portal QB. They're in practice every day. The coaches have a good feeling if they're ready or not.

Of course the coaches would prefer to start a guy we recruited out of high school.. But if there's a proven guy in the portal that gives us a better chance to win, the coaches have a responsibility to recruit them. Their number one priority is to win games. If that means we lose a promising QB for a proven QB, oh well.

By you're same argument we shouldn't have brought in Cam Ward or Carson Beck or even Darian Mensah this year because of Emory Williams and Judd and Nickel.

The coaches are still elevating the floor of the QB room from high school..look at who we have coming in. Abrams and Cypher are now committing instead of lower ranked recruits. So whatever they're doing is working.

If Nickel or Abrams can prove they’re the guy, just think about all the money that frees up to go after the best players in the portal at every position we need to add a guy. If there’s a top TE out there, take him. Productive DT? Take him. Top Center? Take him. Athletic, proven LB that fits the scheme? Take him. Experienced CB for depth? Take him. Top edge rusher? Sign him up.

We could easily do this if we’re not having to drop $5-10 million on a QB. I think that’s the biggest reason why Mario doesn’t want to go to the portal. He could build such a great team around Nickel (or Abrams), they wouldn’t have to be world beaters. If they were just on Carson Beck’s level, the offense would still be elite and the defense could be the best in the country, considering the amount of impact freshmen we could have, such as Jaiden Bryant, Amir Sears, Donte Wright, AJ Randle, Zeke Ayangbile, Ai’King Hall, etc.

If we can fill every hole with a top portal player, we’re looking at an all-time great Miami roster, again. I truly hope Nickel or Abrams is the guy. If not, we have to hit the portal for a QB and live with the results.
 
He ain’t going to lose his two number 1 ranked committed QBs by taking another portal qb. Luke’s gonna have to really fall on his face for that to happen. With the receivers he will throw to this year in garbage time he is going to look more than worthy.
 
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but, I question whether Dawson will still be here next year. If dude pulls off another #1 or top 5 offense, those offers are going to be piling up. That said, I can't foresee Mario taking another portal QB, as wild as that sounds, but we are finally recruiting highly ranked HS QB's to the program, and at some point he's going to have to show he will play them. my .02

Grass isn’t always greener. Guys got it made here: doesn’t have to recruit much, play behind an Alex/ Mario line and the skill talent we have coming in and currently have is elite as it gets. Hes completely set up for success here. And not sure he’s a good enough recruiter to be a head coach

Not sure he’d get much more than a Rice or Tulsa kinda program. The money he makes now vs a role like that can’t be far off.

I hope you are right. I initially thought Dawson gave me a "lifer" kind of vibe. He wants a final destination especially for his kids and such. But I have to imagine, and I believe Mario made mention of head coaching aspirations, Dawson will want to try his hand at the head job.

I was waiting for someone to raise this point— Mario is being on candor and keeping his word— it’s his calling card with recruits and with the high school coaches— his word is his bond!

It would be very out of character he reverse himself and do a 180 and grab some portal QB!
This, at least to me, is definitive
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a recruit work at QB

No one wants to trust that a true frosh could come in and learn or in season surpass Nickel? It used to be the road map!
