2027 Men's Basketball Recruiting



This is not good for the game of college basketball.
The transfer portal is good if you need to add two impact guys to your roster.
Anything more than that will cause chemistry and consistency issues as all you are doing is showing up and playing with a bunch of mercenaries.
Don't get this twisted as Coach Lucas is in a completely different situation in Coral Gables. He is trying to establish a culture in Coral Gables.
I am speaking more about those guys who have been at a school for 4 plus years or more.
College basketball shouldn't be travel basketball where teams just show up and play.
Personally, I would like to see more players stay at the same school for more than a year.
It's amazing how the meaning of "One and Done" has changed over the past decade.

Pretty surprised Miami isn’t on this list. Maybe he adds more schools but imo it’s safe to assume he will end up going to one of these four schools.

Pretty odd list for the top center in America. Wonder what he is requesting situational wise. Prob an OD NIL package and a guaranteed starting spot.

We prob have Somto and/or the Russian returning next year

Cayden is coming on October 16th-18th. That's a great weekend for a visit as it happens when the football team plays Florida State at Hard Rock.

First four are the key words. I think he will add more visits later.
As good as he is on the defensive end, his offensive game needs a lot of work.
As good as he is, he is not one and done good.
Having Somto and Egor would help him more from a development standpoint in practice as he is not ready to play 25+ minutes of college basketball and contribute at a high level.
 


I know, this has nothing to do with Miami right now.
However, in 8 months, if Wake Forest makes a coaching change then he may be available for Miami.
This would be similar to how Miami landed Dante Allen, who committed to Miami after Villanova let Kyle Neptune go.
I am not wishing anything bad on Steve Forbes but we have to keep our options open.
Especially since Justin Wise has committed to Georgia.

5-star C Lewis Uvwo​

In the spring, Lewis Uvwo jumped from a top-50 prospect to a top-10 one for Rivals. His play at Peach Jam lived up to that billing, and the EYBL’s Defensive Player of the Year’s recruitment has followed suit. This past week, Uvwo announced his first four official visits: Baylor, Kentucky, Providence, and Cal. Speaking with sources after this announcement, they tell me they are still watching Duke, UNC, and BYU in this one.

Speaking with Uvwo, he did not grow up watching much college basketball. BYU was his first offer, and he had familiarity with Duke because they offered and recruited Khaman Maluach out of the NBA Academy in Africa that Uvwo was also a part of. These are the two programs that Uvwo says he has the most familiarity with.

I am told that Uvwo’s current plan is to sign during the November early signing period. Providence will get the last of the four already scheduled visits on Sept. 18. That leaves about two months before the Nov. 11-18 early signing period for more visits to potentially be scheduled. While a top schools list has not been issued, and Uvwo has publicly claimed more than 30 offers, this recruitment seems to be taking shape. As it moves forward, continue to monitor which official visits are taken.
 
This is shaping up to be a one person HS class like last year with us being all-in on Cayden/Caleb. Birden was a post-grad guy; and wouldn’t be surprised if we find a wing like him next spring if we strike out on guys listed below. We obviously wanted/want Uvwo however that ship sailed accordnding to his plan.

We ended up bringing in ten guys on OVs last year, and I’m doubtful we pushed for the two who visited in 2026 in Cody Peck and Darius Bivins.

Currently we are only scheduled to bring in Cayden, which is remarkable lol. Jai is being extremely selective. At this point last year, Goosby, Rippley, and Mingo had all visited us already. Jaxon Richardson, Gaskins, Brandon McCoy, Kevin Thomas, and Luke Barnett (early October exception for Barnett) visited during September.

I think us offering Malachi Jordan was a tell that we do want to grab a HS wing/forwarrd this cycle if we can, if not, we’ll look for a portal guy with multiple years left. We weren’t on the OV list for Jordan. Seems like a lost cause.

i see us trying to get one of CJ Rosser or Jordan Page. I think we’re in the mix for both of them however UNC has an advantage for each of them considering they are Carolina natives and Malone is all-in on both of them. UK and NC State have been mentioned with Rosser and Page respectively too. Page is from Raleigh, which is NC State territory. Page recently transferred to IMG. The best players in the country hoop in this state Even if they aren’t from this state now; major advantage for us.

Wouldn’t be shocked if we get a Beckham Black visit however it’d be a courtesy since that star is going to Arkansas or USC.

Friendly reminder that Jai Lucas’ family has deep roots, not just in Houston and Philly, additionally in Durham NC that have nothing to do with Duke. Raleigh is about half-hour away from Durham.

I know there has been a lot of chatter about Iowa feeling uber-confident on Cayden however their actions suggest otherwise.

First, they brought JL3 playing, John Lucas mentored, top-10 ranked point guard Ty Jamison on an official visit this past summer while Miami has refrained themselves from doing the same. Jamison would go onto commit to Baylor.

Secondly, they currently another top-10 ranked point guard scheduled to visit Iowa the weekend after Cayden Daughtry in Jaxson Davis. Iowa offered Jaxson last summer, compared with Michigan State and Minnesota, the two other schools he has scheduled for September/October OVs, who offered him this past July. Moreover, they have a five-star 6’3 combo guard scheduled to visit in early October. Combo guard from Washington, Jalen Davis, also has visits set to UCLA and Gonzaga. I’d presume one of the west coast schools wins out there.

As far as i know, I’m unsure of us being heavily involved in any of the ‘28 players who may reclassify atm.

Daughtry has Arkansas scheduled as his last OV, yet the timing of it (Halloween of October) suggests he may not even make that trip because early signing period is mid-November and King Gibson (in a few weeks) as well as Chase Lumpkin (TBD) will likely take their OVs before him and may have committed already.

Miami is his second to last OV. Where things get tricky is if Beckham Black is leaning to USC, which i think he will be, Calipari’s pursuit of Daughtry could grow stronger. IMO they’re the dark-horse challenger to Miami, and the one to be the most worried about: not FSU or Iowa.
 
Florida basketball is catching up to the talent level in football. More imports than not, however, they raise the general competitiveness nonetheless.

One of the top prep basketball programs in the nation is reportedly getting a massive addition to its roster for the 2026-27 season.

We’ve always been underrated (cc: Amare, McGrady, Visanity, etc.) however more and more of the infrastructure is making it undeniable on a national scale so in addition the guys from other states playing here (Cade Cunningham, Deangelo Russell, Moses Moody, etc) we also have the international hoopers getting acclimated to American basketball (or just basketball in general) here as well (Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Lewis Uvwo, etc) and we already have the locals (Grayson Allen, Anfernee Simons, Tre Donaldson, Gaskins brothers, Scottie Barnes, etc). Thompson twins are somewhere in between; as is Beckham Black.

IMO this all started w/ Brandon Knight and Kenny Boynton and to a lesser extent Kacey Hill.

Florida had two homegrown players go lottery (Boozer + Mikel Brown Jr), and a third who played in the state go in the top ten (Darius Acuff @ IMG).

Big news. Miami secured an OV from college basketball’s #2 ranked player. This is the second recruit to schedule an official visit with Miami.

CJ Rosser has set 7 official dates: 9/11 @ UNC, 9/16 at NC State, 9/25 at The U, 9/28 at Arkansas, October 1st at Kentucky, October 4 at USC, and October 22nd at Louisville. He plays at the same high school as Beckham Black although he is originally from North Carolina.

I didn't see this coming but the rumors are Rosser and Black want to play college basketball together.
Definitely not a done deal but it is interesting.
