Just saw TCU pick up a huge first down in UNC territory and get flagged 15 yds because the WR made a 1st down motion toward UNC's end zone.
The NCAA established automatic 15yd flags for weapon-related gestures, throat-slash or nose wipe motions, helmet removal, or dead-ball contact/pulling players off piles.
A celebration motion...even a simple 1st down point becomes a 15-yard foul **if a referee judges that it was directed toward an opponent, their bench, or done in the immediate field of vision of a defender rather than toward the sideline or crowd***
I smell big time trouble coming from the ACC refs. Players have been allowed to celebrate first downs now for years. You can bet your *** it'll be enforced unevenly. I hope the team is watching this game (given we play UNC) & Mario is drilling "hand the ball to the ref unless after a TD" into each and every player.
