2026 Portal QBs

And sometimes they are right.

If we couldn’t make informed speculations about Miami or college football, this message board wouldn’t even exist, as almost no one here has real inside information.

But instead of making the cheap point that I might be wrong, which I’ve already acknowledged, why not explain why you think I’m wrong? Or explain how you believe the staff is approaching the QB transfer portal?

Or, in reality, do you like speculation when its sunshine pumping but try to silence it when it's critical?
"but in their minds it’s Simpson or bust because they’re not even considering someone like Longstreet. It’s a terrible approach. You need Plan As, Bs, and Cs."

I assume you don't actually believe the plan was Simpson and no other---No A. No B, much less a C

I've already explained myself here a thousand times. It seems like you're more interested in nitpicking. I'm happy to explain again, but why don't you take a stab at explaining what you think the staff's approach is?

It's happening now what could have happened in 2024 and in 2025, Beck and Ward committed at the end but we can't hide the fact that the QB recruiting strategy has always been flawed and without any kind of foresight. Boom or bust.

Can't have that if you want to stay at the top.

Agents are definitely going to be calling about that 6.5 mil...letting us know their client didn't sign their contract. Im hopeful we get this sorted out before the natty
We'll know before the natty. Portal closes on Friday, so if they're backchannelling anyone, that person will have to enter by Friday.

There is no qb strategy besides throw money at the best available portal guy and pray. Hs qb recruiting has been abysmal and that’s being nice.

How would focusing on 1a, 2, 3, 4 at the same time work tho?

Like if 1a is going through the process. But 4 says ok im in. Do you take 4 right there (settle) or do you tell him to wait his turn (I imagine this would be taken as disrespect). It seems like this process needs to be a 1 at a time type of thing.

The unfortunate part of this cycle is we have lost recruiting battles (nature of the beast).

From a dillegence standpoint, would be nice if they had their list of qbs ready and jusy go down the line quickly and have somebody that has already gathered feelers during the season.

Idk, ijs its process. And I cant say I disagree with going after the best first and moving down the line, instead of skipping the line and taking what you can get earlier (not saying you have suggested this, but others have).

Yes, you absolutely take 4 right than and there if you have them 1A, 1B, 1C, etc. How would that be settling? I mean, we thought we had Leavitt and how did that pan out?

There was not a single portal QB this year head and shoulders above anyone else. You take whoever wants in, that is a guy that is good enough. Without a dominant guy in the portal, tjat could have been Sorsby, Leavitt, Hoover, Raiola, etc. Young, inexperienced talent like Knight, Longstreet, etc.

How does Lane continue to do that? He was getting QBs at Ole Miss too with a full room.
Lane has always been able to recruit portal guys. He seems better suited to short runway recruitments as opposed to those where you actually have to build relationships and trust.

With Longstreet specifically, it was probably an easy sell. He is basically in the mold of Chambliss, so you can come to LSU and get first team reps in spring, develop through the season, and take over the starting job next season (assuming Leavitt can play through an entire season). Be the next Chambliss.

Lane also has a pretty strong staff. Charlie Weis Jr. is a star in my opinion and will be a great head coach soon. Even before Lane left, he was largely running that offense in the absence of Lane on a day-to-day basis. Apparently Lane did not even attend offensive meetings regularly. Do not think it was an accident they got better after Lane left.

He successfully recruited FOUR portal quarterbacks for the 2025 season. Ridiculous.
