2026 Portal QBs

I have zero idea who it is to be fair. The person cannot leak the name, but he’s as trustworthy as they come. Even if he did tell me the name, it’’s not my place to leak and pry. I’m just getting bits and pieces of info. I know more about who it isn’t than who it is.

The Simpson offer was legit by the way. In the ballpark of 6 mil, so we tried our **** hardest.
Also, pure speculation but first thought that popped into my head after reading your post was Heintschel.

I think the bolded part of this is a main part of our problem. I have ZERO doubt that we tried as hard as possible with Simpson, but it was also obvious to anyone that’s ever heard the kid talk about Bama/the SEC that he wasn’t coming here. I don’t know if we’re bad at reading the situation with certain players, if we’re just that confident we can convince kids, or what, but seems like we go all out for pie in the sky options without adequate backup options.
Yeah. The way I understand the staff’s approach is that they’re simply unwilling to settle. They probably know Simpson is a long shot, but in their minds it’s Simpson or bust because they’re not even considering someone like Longstreet. It’s a terrible approach. You need Plan As, Bs, and Cs.

Don't let good be the enemy of perfect.

While the portal timeline is bull****, enrolling at UM by the 21st in order to be able to participate in Spring ball is not.

We keep playing with fire every year trying to lock up a portal QB so late in the process. While Beck missed Spring ball to an injury last year, I think we can all agree having a transfer QB miss Spring ball is not ideal. That also to will eventually bite you in the *** if that happens again.

This staff makes so many things more difficult than they need to. Every other top tier program locked up QB(s) with ease and relatively quick. ****, Indiana locked theres up 10 days ago. There is literally zero excuse for us to be in this position yet again.
I hear you. But the way I see it, if we don't play with fire and get Ward (i mention Ward because his accomplishments made us a good Qb destination the following year) and Beck, our program is not currently playing for a championship. So our strategy of going after the best available, in my opinion, is what got us here.

This year the only difference is our first 3 targets have declined. Sorsby, Leavitt, Ty. All high level guys that we tried to get. So while yes, we can settle and have a qb committed.....why not keep going after the next best? There are 3 days left to get one to enter the portal.

Just curious what your "understanding" of the staff's approach is based on. Just looking at the events as the unfold? Inside info?

Yep, observation.

In this case, I’m reasonably confident in my speculation, though obviously I haven’t talked to Mario about it, so I can’t be certain.

Look at last year. It’s widely understood that if we hadn’t landed Beck, we were going to roll with Poff and Emory. We weren’t willing to pivot away from Beck or settle for anything below that tier. That approach worked out for us then.

This year, it doesn’t appear to be working the same way.

Anyone trying to cover the obvious scrambling nature of this QB pursuit is just drinking the Canes Kool Aid. Mario did this last year and the year before. Twice he got lucky. Now he’s crapped out. Yes we playing for a NC but you’re blowing your chance to get back, to build a dynasty. Saban didn’t do short term gambles. Clearly the money and enough of a lire, why keep relying on someone taking the bag? Bags are all over the place now.

The problem IMO with this years approach was that we moved too slow out of the gate. We were already behind a few other teams for certain QBs. We also have a tendency on focusing on 1 guy at a time, rather than making 3,4,5 guys 1A, B,C,D, etc.

I don't think we need to settle, but at some point you have to bring in a guy who was in the portal, that at the very least has more upside, even with little or no experience just to elevate our QB room, while we keep swinging for the fences. I mean, Kiffin landed 3 QBs, that's insane.

We are now at the point there is literally nobody in the portal worth taking, so we are left with trying to convince someone to jump in, when most have already decided they are good were they are. And they also have all the negotiating power.

You obviously may be right. I've been an insider and outsider in many situations where folks speculate as to how and why certain strategies and actions were used. They are oftern wrong.

knowing @WeBallinBoyz it's probably a G5 guy and we will all be mad until we look at his tape and he's 6-3 220 runs like McNabb and throws like Favre. he had 5K yards passing last year and 40 TDs but because he transitioned from being a woman, he flew under the radar. And all of CIS will be happy and defend the guy whenever our opposing fanbase says, "when he [the QB] is too hot to trot, he's still gotta squat". And then we will officially be back.
If it’s a G5 guy, my guess if I had to throw a dart from the back row of the bar would be Maddux Madsen from Boise State.

He has 1 year left.

And sometimes they are right.

If we couldn’t make informed speculations about Miami or college football, this message board wouldn’t even exist, as almost no one here has real inside information.

But instead of making the cheap point that I might be wrong, which I’ve already acknowledged, why not explain why you think I’m wrong? Or explain how you believe the staff is approaching the QB transfer portal?

Or, in reality, do you like speculation when its sunshine pumping but try to silence it when it's critical?

This is clearly highlighting that our operation needs optimization and is currently not buttoned up, looks chaotic. Needs to be a priority fix moving forward.

How would focusing on 1a, 2, 3, 4 at the same time work tho?

Like if 1a is going through the process. But 4 says ok im in. Do you take 4 right there (settle) or do you tell him to wait his turn (I imagine this would be taken as disrespect). It seems like this process needs to be a 1 at a time type of thing.

The unfortunate part of this cycle is we have lost recruiting battles (nature of the beast).

From a dillegence standpoint, would be nice if they had their list of qbs ready and jusy go down the line quickly and have somebody that has already gathered feelers during the season.

Idk, ijs its process. And I cant say I disagree with going after the best first and moving down the line, instead of skipping the line and taking what you can get earlier (not saying you have suggested this, but others have).
