2026 Portal QBs

We're 23-5 over the last two years and playing for #6 on Monday because Mario took a high risk approach and won twice. I can't sit here now and say this was the year to stop taking the risks that were integral in getting us those results. I thought Bailey was someone who would have been a fine option after we swung for the fences. The risk was always there that he wouldn't wait around that long (Same as it was when we pursued higher rated HS QBs who didn't sign here over him). When you gamble you will end up losing eventually. Doesn't mean you should stop gambling before you lose for the first time, IMO.

Lemme ask you, since you did call your shot early and urged Mario to go get Bailey and be done with it: Is that what you wanted us to do the prior two years in the portal? We would have gotten Will Rogers in '24 and Mendoza/Mensah in '25 had we pursued the bird in the hand portal strategy. Results inarguably would have been much worse in '24 (perhaps disastrous), and taking Mendoza/Mensah in '25 after those results would have been much, much different than taking them after Cam.

We'll see how things shake out in the end here, but even if we end up with worst possible outcome this year (Emory/Nickel/Coleman spring & fall QB-o-rama, or even worse Nickel/Coleman + G5/FCS alsoran cause Emory goes to ECU) I'm still not gonna kill Coach for pursuing a strategy for a third time that I think was a big reason why we are playing in the National Championship game on Monday.

I understand why a lot of you will disagree.
I might be the biggest beck fan here but Mendoza/mensah had huge years yes I’d take a guarantee at one of them vs hoping Beck breaks his elbow or whatever

I know Coleman is a twig, but if he really has as much arm talent as has been sold on here, maybe we go with him.

The thing that scares me to death is that I heard that Luke throws a lot of INT's in practice. Now, I know we have a great D, but brother, if that's true, that's another thing (like Emory's slow processing) that I just don't know can be fixed. Maybe. I mean, I'm an avid fan, but not a coach, so maybe that can be fixed, but I've been watching ball for a looooong time and I've never seen these kinds of persistent problems get fixed.

And, if these things can't be fixed then it makes sense in two ways: #1 The coaches know these things can't be fixed which is why we're looking in the portal. #2 The coaches haven't recruited and identified QB talent well enough, so they need other coaches to do it for them. Coleman just got there, so maybe he's their first good one. Or, maybe what I heard about Luke's chronic INT's was an over exaggeration.

All I know is that because of the new portal rules and the singular window, it has greatly reduced our ability to get ourselves out of this mess.

Then we use the money we save on them to bring in Paul Johnson as co-OC and Mali runs our offense in 2026.

Something is wrong with us man🤦🏻‍♂️ . We are Miami, winning 13 games this year, playing in national championship, we pay NIL well to QBs, we offer the sunny beaches of South Florida, the best looking women anywhere in this country, a high performing Offensive Line, and Malachi Toney - and we cant entice a QB??? sheesh 🙄
1. Singular focused
2. Extremely selective (culture has improved so it’s hard to complain)
3. Unwilling to go extreme on NIL asking prices (back to culture which is good)
4. We don’t pressure kids to visit now or commit now (rarely have decommits)
5. We’re getting negative recruited on our offensive style (Why go to them they are a run first team)
6. Teams are aggressive when we are involved (we will pay you not to take that visit)
7. We choose kids we don’t allow kids to choose us. If you want to be here fine, we won’t beg you. You don’t see Mario flying out to airports to beg a kid not to take a visit.

8. This is all assumption from me as a fan

What's wrong is our QB portal strategy. We could have enticed many decent QBs with high upside (CJ Bailey, Austin Simmons, etc.), we were just arrogant and moved like molasses.
There is nothing wrong with our QB portal strategy. Yall just are impatient and scary.

We have a **** ton of money so we go after the best. There is still time to get somebody and we will.

We'll see. I think regardless, our strategy is flawed, but no need to rehash that argument. It's been had many times on this board.

Bro seriously I’m not even trying to start an argument, this is a legit question. Are you still really that confident that this is going to go our way?

I think people are worried about who our options are at this point.

Yes, we have money.

Yes, we have a winning product to sell.

Yes, we have a solid O-line and receiving threats to sell.

But who are we selling to?

The strategy is definitely a problem. It’s move slow go after the biggest names and wait on them. Then other options goes elsewhere then you need a prayer late. They almost got stuck with poff last year because of it

I think there are still a few options (not in portal yet) that would be very good on this team.

Are we gonna get a Cam Ward level player? No. But with next years team, we dont need a savior at qb.
