2026 Portal QBs

When I created this thread, it was part in joke with how long it took Mario to do everything and also in part because most of the board felt we needed to improve in how we handled the portal and QBs to avoid these last second, desperation half-court salvos.

And yet again, here we are in year 3 in a row of the same QB bull****.

This year, especially after we got into the Playoff, we needed to act as quickly as possible. Identify guys and quickly pivot to them.

My final list was:

1) Sorsby
2) Leavitt
3) Bailey

As news of Sorsby broke regarding the girl friend transferring to TT, Leavitt character concerns, etc should’ve led immediately to whom I said would be a good QB and whom also @DMoney and @Peter Ariz also said would thrive here: Bailey!!!

Many here don’t like or despise Bailey. That’s ok. It’s many of the same people that didn’t like Mendoza.

So, here we are again praying for Simpson or somehow now hitting on some high level QB that hasn’t played much out there in the portal.

Indiana, for as much as we are tired of their ******* *** already, did it perfectly and I said as much. They:

1) Identified their QB (Hoover)
2) Signed pretty much on one day their RB, WR, QB, etc transfer targets.

Looks like that was our plan for this last weekend, and that is fine for position players but when it comes to the QB, that guy is the one that needs to be done as early as possible in the process.

So, I’ll be creating a 2027 QB target thread again because, why not? 😂😂😂

Except at least this time, we have the happiness of a Championship game appearance with a shot at #6. That’s what’s most important right now for the staff. 1/19.

lagway committed to baylor

I don’t see a lot of dudes talking about him but Ethan Grunkenmeyer would be a very interesting fall back option. He’s another guy that has an upward trajectory and he’s played in a similar offense

He is pretty good actually. I don't know if he has the number of starts (only 4) that Mario is looking for. He is a talented player though.

He was dog**** in the Bowl game.
Hes a True freshmen…no where near a finished product…have to like his true freshmen production, with way less support than Miami offers him. If we had a true freshmen put up the games he did, this message board would be real happy heading into his sophomore year

- Malachi Toney
- incoming solid transfer WRs
- Culture
- young WR talent on the team
- Running game
- great O-line and great defense
- a favorable schedule that should lead to a playoff appearance again next year.

Despite all of that………………….

Poor process and drama in acquiring a QB!

It's Simpson or bust at this point. And if not Simpson then lower your expectations for next year. They can still have a great year with a duplicated defense, strong running attack and good QB play with limited mistakes. I would say the ACC could be won with that product, which by the way they have never done.

The only silver lining to this news is Mario probably realizes a national championship next year is a long shot without Simpson. So more then ever, the time is now. You can bet this staff is working overtime and sleeping very little to ensure the team is prepared more than ever. This moment must be seized. They went with playing with house money, to almost needing to get this trophy. Go get this ship and have Nickel or Coleman ready to make a run in 2027. It still baffles my mind that QB's are not lining up to play behind this OL and have these weapons. Guarantee that is not the case if we are in SEC.

shame the texas st kid isn't an option, saw some tape not too long ago

Agreed with all of this, except that we can bring in a guy who has multiple years of eligibility (Longstreet or Grunkemeyer) and although we almost certainly wouldn't win the championship with that guy in his first year, it'd set us up nicely for '27.
