2026 Portal QBs

Pretty decent source.

Yeah interesting.
Wonder if TTU would pivot to Leavitt, or just Go for Lagway or something.... It's interesting cause If Hammond didn't get hurt late, I would have thought they'd pivot to him. But then if they don't get a clear 1 year only option like Sorsby/Leavitt, I imagine they could lose Hammond. Like Mestemaker there would make sense for sure, but that's 2 years, same with Deuce Knight... Lagway COULD be a 2 year guy as well (at this point probably will). So interesting play if they don't get Sorsby.

Maybe Mateer?

Only way I take one of those young 5 stars is if they want to take the Dante Moore path amd sit a year. Not to say they cant win the job immediately.

For example, lets say we get CJ Bailey.

And Keelon Russell or Husan Longstreet wants to come and be ok sitting a year. Great. If they beat out Bailey day 1, even better.
I seriously doubt we take 2 from the portal. Poff/Cam was a 1 time oddity.

This one is tempting for me. I really am high on Deuce. I wish we knew our complete schedule because it would answer if I consider this. If we had 4 fairly easy games to start the season which is definitely possible, I would consider this. I like Deuce that much. The problem for these guys entering late now, teams have already been battling (bidding) for that 1st visit because it is likely that QB signs at that spot. I expect Deuce to have a big future wherever he ends up. Not with us at this point.
I’d would absolutely pay whatever he wanted as long as the agreement was backloaded. This guy is an absolute baller.

Havent seen anyone mention this but today Steve Kim and Pete spoke at the beginning of this live stream.

Steve says that sources have told him there will be a big name who enters the portal and who we end up with people will be very happy with it.

Pete also mentions he believes the "big name" Steve is alluding to is Mateer....

Just a FYI

Time will tell

I don't get the Mateer love, his mechanics are awful at times and leads to some awful misses
he's a one-speed thrower, too. no touch, just rifles everything in there.

i think he could be fun in a system like the one golesh runs in a more byrum brown type role. but for us i just don't see a good fit. he is not good at playing within structure and keeping things on schedule.
