2026 Portal QBs

Kenny Minchey has thrown a total of 29 passes in his college career. What has he done to be ranked 7th other than likely being highly ranked out of HS and going to ND?
I've seen Minchey live in 2-3 games and he is pretty good IMHO. Very good runner with good escapability in the pocket. For those that like QBs who are mobile he would be one of those guys that can do a lot either on designed runs or scrambling.

His arm talent seems sufficient. Takes a lot of short stuff and some intermediate stuff and is pretty accurate and on time with those throws. He does not throw downfield a lot (probably because he is mostly in for mop up duty) and that is a pretty big question mark. I have to think Carr is a materially better thrower because I understand the race between them was pretty tight and Minchey has much better mobility.

I've always thought Minchey looks small. He's listed at 6'1" to Carr's 6'3", but on the field he looks considerably shorter than Carr. Obviously he's inexperienced as you noted and is a bit of a gamble in that respect.

Overall, I think he has a lot of potential. Probably too risky for UM and maybe not the best fit for Dawson, but I think he belongs on that list.

To add to what the other guy said. Think it’s just a little training camp hype. He reportedly beat out Angeli who has looked good in in his limited PT and the QB comp came down to Carr and Minchey which most reporters claimed was a close competition and then obviously Carr had a strong year.

And it’s worth noting he has put up good numbers in that very limited garbage time. Hes still a pretty risky take tho
