2026 NFL Draft Thread

This is a poor draft class. Plenty of starters, but this draft fell off hard after the first 15 or so players on the board. You had 3rd Round types in a normal year going mid-R1 here. Teams just locking in and taking base hit single offensive lineman (taking OL never gets you fired) no matter the value. Became a little bit of a "lets just get a guy that we know can play" and you see

Les Snead wins this years Gene Smith Smartest Guy in the Room Award. Told the kid of one of his buddies he was a first rounder and was locked in to the take the whole way. Simpson will sit back and learn...in theory...but QBs with his number of starts and his yards per attempt make him a first percentile outlier for success.

For all we know, there could be four perennial all-pro players who will be taken on day 3. Ive always found these claims to be too prescriptive and presumptuous.

who are these mid-1st round guys that would have gone in the 3rd round in a “normal year?”

Because you are trying to judge these post-mortem.

Every draft has players that become DUDES. That isn't the point. There will be dudes in this draft too. There always are. It is the quality of the prospects draft value...how they are evaluated pre-draft, their draft grades. The draft grades for this particular draft drop off the cliff very early. Most players drafted from 15 to 80 going to be rated very closely together, but as Day 2 players. So you have a ton of wonky picks - many of them venture to the safe side (OL) as a result. Get a player that can at least contribute and get out (a mindset for late Day 2 and Early Day 3 as the player pool dries up). This happened a lot earlier in this draft than most others.
