2026 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I know this staff is good and I fully expect them to have a Top 10 recruiting class but could they possibly have a Top 5 recruiting class in Year 1 on campus.

Bball recruiting seems pretty vague.. Do we have a list in layers of:
- Miami Locks
- Miami Leaning
- 50/50 battle
- No shot

* The closest only player I've read is that we feel good about Gaskin because of the Columbus connection. Anyone else?

I'm not privy to this specifics of this staff's recruiting board, but it's pretty evident Coach Jai is going after whales, in and out of state. If I had to guess, I'd say the Columbus kids (Gaskins and Richardson) are at the very top because of their ties to that program. Also, keep an eye on Prolific Prep and which kids from that program we offer.

I know of no such list because, as you say, basketball recruiting seems pretty vague.

Here's what we do know. Every player below has a Miami offer and has not committed anywhere. Rankings are ESPN.

Still in it:

8. Baba Oladotun (6-9 forward): will visit Maryland
11. Jaxon Richardson (6-5 guard): Miami among 10 finalists; will visit Alabama
16. Caleb Gaskins (6-8 forward): visited Miami on June 24
17. Taylen Kinney (6-2 guard): Miami among 8 finalists; will visit September 19
18. Deron Rippey (6-2 guard): Miami among 12 finalists; will visit August 27
19. Austin Goosby (6-5 guard): visiting Miami August 22-24
20. Bryson Howard (6-6 wing): no Miami visit yet; 8 other visits scheduled
29. Alex Constanza (6-7 forward): has visited Syracuse, Illinois, Georgetown
36. Latrell Allmond (6-8 forward): Miami among 9 finalists; has visited Indiana; will visit Kansas
45. Aiden Derkack (6-5 guard): has scheduled no visits
56. Kevin Thomas (6-6 forward): will visit Miami September 27

Probably not:

21. Arafan Diane (7-0 center): Miami not among 12 finalists
25. Cole Cloer (6-7 forward): Miami not among 8 finalists
37. Luca Foster (6-5 wing): Miami not among 9 finalists
57. Gage Mayfield (6-7 forward): Miami not among 5 finalists
60. Dakari Spear (6-4 guard): Miami not among 5 finalists

They don't have the budget to recruit nationally, at least not to the level Ham did. The entire athletic department is hemorrhaging money, hence why they made such a halfassed, uninspiring hire in the first place.
In fairness, you don't need to recruit nationally when the state of FL has 11 players in the Top 100 in the nation.
That recruiting nationally perspective is tricky, especially if the players you sign aren't that good.
Remember how Coach L sold Canes fans for years about how good the kids from the Northeast are.
Now, that perspective is very true as long as you are getting some of the top 10 kids in the Northeast.
However, the kids that came to Miami weren't in the top 10 category and the program suffered in the later years.
At the end of the day, you need talented players!

The problem is when a majority of those local Top 100 guys aren’t remotely interested in staying home and view in state programs as second rate, no matter how much winning those programs have done of late. L had a pretty good hit rate recruiting nationally with an emphasis the eastern seaboard, where the kids were receptive to the Miami sales pitch.

The only times L struggled with talent was either when the program was unable to recruit thanks to the NCAA crippling the program, or when the powers that be gave him a crap budget and expected him to win anyway. Imagine L with the budget Lucas is getting. He never got that kind of support.

Should Florida schools spend resources locally? Yes, but as we’ve seen time and time again, local kids aren’t all that enamored with staying home. They are holding out for the “Big” offers and local schools have to plan accordingly.

From what I understand, their basketball budget is under $2 mil. OUCH!
