Tired Over It GIF by Jonas Mosesson

Been wondering about this since it happened. Whew. Tuff sledding for them boys ahead.
How is St. Clair not next man up? Couldn't believe they went to the other dude after all I've heard about TSC.

With that happening I think its very unlikely but I told someone last week that I thought if OSU turned to him over Sayin that would be the only thing that could turn any team into the clear number 1 whereas its currently a group of 5-6 teams that are basically in the same bucket. Guess he's not ready or not as good as the closed practice rumors would suggest.

At the mid-way point; here are the teams w/ legitimate shots to lose three regular season games;

Praying on their Downfall list:

1. Ohio State (6-1 (4-0) currently) — has not lost 3+ since 2011 when Luke Fickell was the interim head coach following the tattoo scandal. Before that, they lost their third game in 2008 Fiesta Bowl to Texas. For a better comparison, Jim Tressell went 7-4 in the 2004 regular season; his fourth year as HC. The Buckeyes lost 6, 3, and 4 games (2001 was Tressell’s first year) in the regular season before their 2002 undefeated run.

Ryan Day has lost two regular season games twice, this would be his third time, Meyer only did once. Tressell did twice. It’d be the first time in Day’s career losing three+.

They Play @ USC, Oregon, Northwestern, @ Nebraska, and Michigan to finish off the season. Despite the national title, Day has had five straight years with at least two losses. The last time Ohio State lost two games in six straight seasons was from 1987 to 1992; which included the first five seasons of John Cooper’s tenure as HC and the end of Earle Bruce’s.

2. Oregon (4-2 (2-1) currently) —Dan Lanning hasn’t lost three games (regular season or otherwise) since year 1 of his tenure. He is in the year 5; and the infrastructure Cristobal afforded him as the program’s benefactor is tearing itself down. The worse Oregon looks, the better Cristobal’s success at Oregon looks so Ducks’ tears are always positive externalities for Sebastian the Ibis.

To be fair, in 2022, Oregon lost to UGA (national champs), Washington (11-2, Kalen DeBoer then went to the natty the year after), and a 10-3 Oregon State team. This isn’t 2022.

They face: @ Illinois, Northwestern, @ Ohio State, Michigan, @ Michigan State, and Washington to end their season.

I felt exactly like you did. Then, after the first day of fall camp, Ryan Day cited backup quarterback (in addition to Oline) as a spot that worries him. A week later, he said TSC was getting pushed by LF for the #2 spot.

Apparently TSC played at a low level of competition in Ohio while Mater Dei played much better competition. Fahey picked up Smith’s offense very quickly and that aided him in snatching that backup spot from TSC.

To add on to this, I have also read that the QB coach that Ohio State hired is pretty underqualified and the fans feel it's hurting St. Clair. He was basically described like you said having played a low level of talent but having massive physical upside but would need development and he's apparently not getting any better. Like their coaches resume is essentially, OSU GA, two years as the QB coach at Akron (he used to play for morehead the coach there at Penn State), and then one year at UCLA before being back at OSU.

The Trojans game is going to be much more interesting now. I think they have a very good chance of beating O$U.
