2008: CBS and SEC 15 year renewal; 55M’s annually. CBS got the best game of the week plus one double header.
2012: SEC expansion; the start of the rift. ESPN upped their total distribution in order to accommodate the two new members for A&M and Mizzou to get the same amount as the rest of the schools; CBS declined.

CBS has new ownership, their merger with warner brothers was just recently approved by the dozen states suing them, and Comcast split off NBCUniversal and Sky. The CFP is currently at the midpoint of their 30 day exclusive negotiating window with ESPN as they seek to expand.
These two developments along with the three streamers lurking is going to create a TON of value with this expansion…..which is why this PCSA is so ****** cynical and grimy.
I can only imagine the conversations and espionage of information going on right now lol……..Disney is going to pay up but they literally cannot afford to continue being the exclusive partner of the CFP….no one can. It’s going to be too much money.

The story of the SEC and CBS is a winding journey that started as a happy marriage, turned quite rocky and then led to a divorce during renewal negotiations in 2020.
