2023 Vs 2017

I’m confident the 2023 offense will outscore the 2017 offense. That unit was very average.

If the 2023 defense can hold opponents to 21 points per game like the 2017 defense did, this will be a very good team.

Pastor Strict's Offense is the reason why we didn't win the ACC title.

Had he hired an OC from the jump, we would've won way more games in both 2016 & 2017.

I wasn't referring to just one side of the ball, I meant Coaching overall in totality, in terms of decision making, ability to get the best out of players maximizing effort & making personnel decisions etc..

The 2017 team really wasn't that good altogether, but Pastor Strict for all his faults was able to make them believe they were better than they were.

On paper, we should've got stomped by Notre Lame, but the exact opposite happened & that was mainly due to Richt's ability to galvanize them to that point.

He didn't come in & immediately wave the white flag, he took what we had & made the best of it for those first two seasons, until he **** near died in 2018 & had to step down.

But had he hired an OC/QB coach instead of entrusting his goober of a Son with the most important position on the team, we probably would've been in a much more different predicament than we are now.

That 2016 team should have won double digits. They had FSU on the ropes all game, If Kaaya didn't throw a pick in the endzone early in the 3rd then FSU folds. Unc and ND were extremely winnable and then we got killed with injuries on d for the Va Tech game.

Richt did lend an air of legitimacy to the team and you could see guys bought in. His insistence on filling his offensive staff with friends and family was his downfall here. That and chasing away the only quarterback he had on the roster. A real OC/QB coach in 2016-2018 and the program is on a totally different trajectory.

But I will say.. I'm taking the 2023 WR room (outlook/expectation) over 2017 (in hindsight) 100% of the time. Richards was hurt all year and played 8 games. Maybe healthy in 3-4 of them. It was just true freshman Jeff Thomas and then Cager wasn't very good. I remember they had nobody stepping up and then Langham made those catches and ended up starting games because of it. Berrios was the GUY on that team in the WR room and it wasn't close.

I think X can give you exactly what Berrios gave us in 2017. A healthy Colbie Young is far beyond anything Langham and Cager were in 2017. Harrell (5th year) is the comp to true freshman JT and that one isn't very close. I'm taking Harrell's speed and experience all day. Lots of guys can be what AR was playing on his injured hamstring.. before the vertebrae issue. Lots of people forget how poor Dugan's WR room was operated..

Bump. Where’s the lie? I may prefer true freshman JT over Harrell at this point but the opportunities have been minimal because our top 3 guys are absolute ballers.
 
2017 felt like we had a loaded back account but hadn’t yet paid the bills.

2023, doesn’t feel like we’re rich, but kinda like we have some extra spending cash after paying the bills
