Shocked we are at 12. Also when was the last time we were above both FSU and UF in that ranking?
We were at 12 last year too (lol). Their rankings go back to 2015 and Miami has averaged around 17th with a high of 12 and a low of 20th. It really shows how we have consistently underperformed.

2015: 17
2016: 19
2017: 20
2018: 17
2019: 18
2020: 18
2021: 13
2022: 12

For reference, FSU was 17 and UF was 14 last year.

That’s not news… we tend to believe we’re a lot more void of talent than we actually are.

Doing less with more is a nail on the head description of what’s been happening around here for a long time.
Serious question. If Miami has talent then why are the players who left not doing anything their new schools. At the same time the guys coming in are much better than the guys already here?

Poor work ethic… not being coachable.

It’s never one thing by itself for sure. I’ll say this though… I can’t recall one Duke or Virginia loss we’ve experienced in 10 years where either had a more talented roster or coaching staff (on paper) yet in still we’ve ended up on the wrong side of the win/loss column.

It could possibly be because the good players usually don’t transfer. I mean think about it. Players usually leave because they got passed on the depth chart and aren’t going to see the field. The good players , who actually play in games aren’t the ones leaving. Judging a team’s overall talent based on the players who transfer out makes zero sense.

I notice the "does more with less" teams Michigan and Utah are teams that are consistently big and physical on the line of scrimmage, I expect Mario to do some of that here.

With the LOS fixed up the main challenge remaining will be playing an exciting brand of offense that can sell to elite QBs and the #1 WRs.

Utah and Wisky immediately jump out to me as teams who consistently do more with less.

I think it comes down to several things...

1) The transfers are part of the ranking (both those that have come and those that left) so theoretically they are already factored in

2) The talent rankings are based on high school rankings, there are kids that exceed and kids that do worse than their rankings; the coaches have a larger sample size with those players coming in as they have seen them play against other college athletes after they have had better coaching, gained muscle, etc. which means the hit rate should be better for those transferring in.

3) Even with that advantage of seeing transfers play in college, not all of them have been 'much better'; only about half of the transfers Mario brought in last year did much of anything

4) For the players who have left that are not doing well, in addition to #2 (being busts) I think a lot of it has been a culture issue. You spend a couple of years at a school that has a certain culture, it is hard to adjust to a new culture
