FEI - OVERALL
2022: OVERALL: 90 | OFFENSE: 90 | DEFENSE: 66
FEI - OFFENSE
Our touchdown rate was terrible, while our turnover rate was world historically bad. Don't score touchdowns at the rate you should while turning the ball over at a ridiculous rate leads to a dissapointing record. It shocking.
FEI - DEFENSE
We were pretty solid defensively. Yards per play + touchdown rate stand out as areas that hurt us though.
FEI - SPECIAL TEAMS
We were solid on special teams too, but for the second straight year our punt return efficiency was turrible, which puts us at a disadvantage field position-wise, which you'll see hurt us when we get to the individual games. Catch the punt, run forward with the punt should be the goal for year 3 in MarioWorld.
FEI - RECORD SPLITS
Better than last year against top60 teams but that a low bar. Let's be more like Louisville next year, and less like us and Jimbo Texas AtM.
F+
2022: Overall: 79 | Offense: 94 (thanks gattASS) | Defense: 57 | Special Teams: 15 (we're actually good at specials in Mario era - mostly cause of our KO returns/FGs/punts)
2023 GAME RATINGS
We started out like gangbusters, and then.... Nice to finish the year strong with the BC game (and UL for the offense). Am not sure if Dawson suffered a TBI after the Clemson game, but the UVA and NCSt games were absolute offensive abominations.
2023 - GAME SPLITS - OFFENSE
In 4 games we turned the ball over 15 times. We went 1-3. It stunning. NCst game is the outlier for Dawson, just turrible. The other 3 -10+ OV games aren't great (1 is FSU with Emory so let's agree to give him a pass cause his QB couldn't), but dude got his **** pushed in by his old coaching buddy against NCst. UNC/CLEM/FSU/UL games we had turrible field position, and we went 1-3 in those games.
2023 GAME SPLITS - DEFENSE
Louisville was a stinker of a defensive game, and UNC wasn't very good either, but neither came close to the NCst game on offense. NCst defensive game pretty incredible considering their good field position. We lost 4/5 games when opponent averaged less than 70 yards to go each drive.
2023 GAME SPLITS - FULL
@mossmadness can offer much better analysis on all this than I can, but analytically we're definitely way better than we were last year, but also definitely underperformed recordwise to what we could have achieved if we were even a +1 SD team nevermind a +2 SD team. Am fine with Dawson coming back, but he needs to do a better job (or just have a QB that throws the ball to open guys and not to the other team) and a game like NCst simply can't happen again. Guidry did well this year I think, and if you check the game scores from his second season at Marshall that's when he made a huge leap on defense. Fewer touchdowns given up, more turnovers created, and fewer yards per play are what he needs to do next year.
