2022 Head Coach Hot List

I don’t get the infatuation with Napier. He made some really indefensible calls this year, mainly that App St game. He had the best athlete in the conference playing QB and still struggled to have any consistency on offense.st like his background

I just like his background. He’s worked for some big time schools and I think he probably has some ties to other good coaches that he could bring in to work with him. Also I like the fact that his record has improved every year at Louisiana.

No more first time head coaches. IT can work if they're some wunderkind like Day or Lincoln and they're left with a huge infrastructure someone else built, but this ain't it.

TIER 1

Campbell
Fickell
Wittingham
Mario
Allen (this is a big time sleeper in my opinion)
Chadwell

TIER 2

Napier (Saban assistants have mixed results but that's half of college football)
Tom Herman (depending on how he fares at his next gig)
Bill Clark
Neal Brown
Phillip Montgomery
Mario???

Graham Harrell
Alex Grinch
Jim Leonhard
Gus Malzahn
Marcus Freeman
Tony Elliott
Hugh Freeze
Luke Fickell
Billy Napier
Chuck Pagano
Dan Lanning

There will always be surprise HC firings

1A) Luke Fickell
1B) Bill Clark
3) Lance Leipold
4) Jamey Caldwell
5) Willie Fritz

Out of Left Field-

1) Ken Dorsey: Current QB coach for the Bills and has made tremendous strides with a 2nd QB(First was Cam). Matt Rhule and Dabo made similar jumps.

2) Chuck Pagano- one of the best DCs in the NFL and has always been one of the best NFL defensive minds. That idiot GM failed him big time with his roster.

3) Hugh Freeze- Only if we get serious about football and there’s an AD change.

I’m not a big fan of first time head coaches either, but I think Tony Elliott and Venables will kill it whenever they take over a program somewhere, and they will take over a program at some point.

Dorsey is likely to get the Buffalo OC job next.

Pagano - you just gave CIO a woody.

Sorry to break your heart but he’s probably taking the Jacksonville Jaguars job.

We wouldn’t pay Matt Campbell’s buyout or pay him at least 4.5 mil a year.
True. I don’t the he’d be interested anyway. I’ve read Ohio State and Notre Dame are his dream jobs and he might just sit tight for a few years to see what happens. Fickel wants the Ohio State job too. Everyone is waiting to see what Ryan Day does after this season.

I know people **** on him around here but I think he would be a solid hire. Would recruit, has been around real coaches who know how to build things, and won a real trophy in a real conference last year (this year was a mess but that's true for almost everyone). And I know this has been talked about to death but he got an absolute raw deal at FIU, where he had something goin'.

We all know Spicy Al Golden is not firing his buddies so why not start an HC Hot List a little early? Personally I would rather see Blake James fired and a competent AD brought in to make that hire because we all know whatever choice Blake makes, will be another disaster.
I’ll start:

Luke Fickell
Joe Brady
Mario
Venebles
Tony Elliott
Duce Staley
Schiano
Kerry Coombs
Kevin Wilson
Lmao at Mario

Campbell from Iowa State should be at the top of that list. He’s done the most with the least. Selfishly, Cane fans should want him under the radar until the admin kicks Manny and his boi Baker to the curve after next year. Manny did it to himself...

Go Canes!
