The team played well last year but just couldn't get hits with men on base. Hopefully this year they take advantage, they are off to a great start.

noob question... why are there so many ranking systems in Baseball? Which one is the most legit or even means the most?

Three of them (D1, Baseball America, and Perfect Game) aren’t traditional polls. They’re staff rankings by those publications. PG and D1 (the two newest) were both started by Kendall Rogers as he’s changed jobs over the years. He even had a Rivals ranking when he was there in the 2000s.

Probably D1 because that seems to be what ESPN has adopted for their broadcasts. Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, and the Coaches Poll are probably worth a look too. NCBWA and Perfect Game pretty minor.

None of them mean the most because none of them mean anything. The committee gets a whole lot of data, but they don't look to see what a bunch of magazines have in their ratings. If you want to gauge things like national seeds and regional hosts, go to www.warrennolan.com and pay attention to RPI, conference standings, and record against top 25 and top 50 teams.

Weird how much quieter it is in here this week....
No big drops so far. Down three spots apiece to 9th in D1Baseball and 6th in Baseball America.
From a schedule perspective, we’ve gone from 6 ranked opponents in the first 7 weeks to 3 in the first 9 weeks (including Florida and VT) after last weekend’s ACC carnage.

Ya, it's hard to ascertain if there's more parity, or COVID/MLB draft impacts, or the early weeks are going to be like MLB spring training since a lot of guys haven't played much baseball in the past year or a combination of the above.

I wonder if COVID's additional year of eligibility will help the teams (like VT?) who may not have had guys drafted but get them back because of the additional year? VT's defense was pretty shaky but their pitchers and hitters played a lot better than our veteran guys.

I’m shocked we are still top ten. I know a bunch of big names lost this past weekend, but it’s hard to believe they all failed the eye test as much as we did.

Its embarrassing that they post stuff like this. We just lost a series to a team we have no business losing to at home and they are posting about moving up in rankings. Every sports social media account is a direct reflection of the mindset within those programs
