Although the Canes are hard at work trying to finish off their 2020 class, the Miami coaching staff is still paying select attention to top 2021 prospects. A new name emerged on the radar earlier this week when UM offered 2021 4-star WR Marcus Burke, who hails from the powerhouse Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville.

“Coach Taylor (Stubblefield) offered me on the phone and it was just amazing news,” Burke said. “He said the 2021 class is going to be great and he wanted me to be a part of it.”

Now with the Miami offer in hand, the 6-3 180 pound prospect made it seem like the Canes would be heavily involved going forward, saying he would be making a spring visit when the recruiting calendar switched over.

“I like how it’s not far away from home,” Burke said of Miami. “Also, how they approached and spoke to me when they offered, I can tell the coaches are real.”

For a talent like Burke, though, UM certainly won’t be running unopposed. After a huge junior season, Burke currently lists Power 5 offers from UF, FSU, UGA, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina among others, and even lists a current front-runner from his offers.

“Georgia is the leader right now,” Burke said. “I just feel the best connection there.”

Although the Bulldogs are out in front right now, the Canes and others will have time to catch them, as Burke is in no rush to make an early commitment.

“I don’t know when I’m going to a make a decision, but I want the school to feel like home and I want to know they can take me to the next level,” Burke said.

It’s not the Canes first foray into Trinity Christian, as the Conquerors are known for producing a ton of quality D-I prospects and Miami has made more of an effort to comb the Jacksonville area in recent years. However, despite Burke’s relative individual success this season, Trinity Christian surprisingly struggled to a 5-6 record in 2019.

“We went out in the first round, which sucked, but I did straight,” Burke said. “I would’ve done a lot better if our quarterback didn’t get hurt.”

As a junior at TCA, Burke tallied 37 catches for 831 yards and 9 TD’s, and averaged an electric 22.5 yards per catch.

We need to have this kid in the class. Tracks the ball well, good speed, natural catcher and really good size. Stubbs gotta get me this one.
