While the Canes took two highly rated TE’s in Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory in the 2018 class, the position still lacks numbers. With that in mind, it is likely that UM will again be looking to sign two TE’s in the 2019 class. Tampa 3-star Larry Hodges has already made his pledge to the orange and green, but coach Todd Hartley is still hard at work trying to stock the TE room. One of his targets? ****inson (TX) 3-star Jalen Wydermyer, who has reciprocated that Miami interest.

“I love me and coach Hartley’s talks and convos,” Wydermyer said. “Me and him have a great relationship so far.”

The Canes have a known tradition at the tight end position, and there’s something about UM that makes tight ends thrive. This is something Wydermyer recognizes and is one of the reasons he’s so high on Miami.

“Miami’s a great tight end program with a promising future,” Wydermyer said. “And it’s a great school academically.”

The Canes have made strides within the program since Mark Richt arrived: they had their first 10 win season in 14 years and went to their first ACC Championship in 2017. The next step is to finally capture that ACC Championship, and Wydermyer believes it’s within reach for Miami in 2018.

“Yes, I expect Miami to keep rising on the field,” Wydermyer said.

Wydermyer plans no upcoming visits for the spring and is instead spending his time working on his game to improve for his senior season. At this time, a decision timetable is elusive for the young 6’5” 230 pound tight end, but he does know what he’s looking for in a school when he does make his choice.

“I’m looking for the connection between me and the coach and how much I love the campus,” Wydermyer said.

In his junior season, Wydermyer continued his development and registered a career season, recording 25 catches and 412 yards for 8 TD’s from his TE position for his ****inson squad.

“My junior year was great, my best year so far,” Wydermyer said. “Our team came a little short, but we had a great year.”

And what he’s most excited about for his senior season?

“Honestly, I just can’t wait to take that field again.”

I really like Hodges , Zip, and Jalen. But Jalens height would compliment our current targets and depth chart well.

If Zip commits we'll be good and the recruiting impact would be greater because we'll have another Polk Cty boy. If we can get a couple studs out of there (Polk County/ Central Fl.) each year, we'll good.
