Additions: Zion Nelson (2019 signee) and Tommy Kennedy (Butler Transfer)

Departures: Venzell Boulware (NFL Draft), Hayden Mahoney (Boston College Transfer), Bar Milo (Graduation), Tyler Gauthier (Graduation), Tyree St. Louis (Graduation), and Jahair Jones (Graduation)

Poor evaluations and average player development were the causes of arguably the worst Miami offensive line this decade. The 2015 and 2016 recruiting classes – Mahoney, Jones, Milo, St. Louis, Gauthier, Brendan...

Thanks for the read Kyle. Yeah, I agree how the offense goes will be predicated on how the OL holds up creating holes and in pass protection. While I believe a change in scheme will help out tremendously, it will take a better S&C season which we just had, coupled with talent to make the offensive line go. Here’s praying we don’t have a rash of injuries on the line or it could spell doom for the offense’s ability to put up points. If Barry brings what he brought while coaching for the Bucs, I am encouraged that he has some tools to work with, and should have them working better in unison than last year’s unit was able to perform.

" The Miami Hurricanes only have 11 scholarship linemen going into spring camp and only three with starting experience "

Enos has a huge challenge ahead of him. There is no sugar coating our issues at OL at all. We're still 3 classes away from building depth AND seniority.

Nice article, Kyle. Thanks.

Herbert, Reed and Campbell have to step up. I'm less optimistic about Hillery. But those three were studs coming out of HS and need to live up to their potential.

It was good to see videos of Kennedy in the weight room. That boy isn't winning any beauty contests, and he definitely needs to add some muscle to merit the Big in Big Ugly. His best talent is his feet quickness, and he'll need all he can draw on to handle Garvin, Rousseau and Patch. Hoping for some practice updates on how he holds up.

This is what I believe may happen if Donaldson doesn't stop eating.

1st team:
LT Kennedy
LG Scaife
C Gaynor
RG Reed
RT Campbell

2nd team:
LT Herbert
LG Hillery
C Dykstra
RG Donaldson
RT Brown

Redshirt:
Nelson, Clark, El Gammal

Donaldson has lost weight since he has been here. Dude came on campus as a freshmen at 370+.

"3 classes away" isn't this what we say every year?!? LULZ

I believe the new OC, OL Coach and S&C Coach will do wonders for Donaldson. He's going to get pushed hard to get into shape. And Manny at the helm. He didn't seem to have a bad-weight problem on the defensive side.

Zion Nelson the true freshman OT is benefiting from the new S&C coach as he is up from 237 pounds to 265 pounds in 2 and 1/2 months.

Wish that Herbert would emerge. Or even Hillery. Not getting anything from either of those guys in year 3 hurts.

Because of how dicey OL evals can be, it's really a position you have to throw numbers at annually and let things sort out, which we haven't done. Need to take 3-4 OL every year and prolly 5 this year.

This.

Load up on the big uglies. Everybody loves to look at the flashy skill position guys, but you won’t win squat if you don’t have the fatties up front.

One of our other issues:

We, historically, due to the nature of HS programs in Florida and how we would recruit, were able to take DL that didn't quite work out as hoped at that spot, and move them over to the OL after they were in the program a couple years. Sometimes, we would have success doing that. It provided depth and competition. Unfortunately, I don't see anyone currently on the roster that can help us that way
