People still complaining too much about defensive short comings. They weren’t perfect, nor were they as good as 2018. But check the numbers:

13th in total defense
23rd scoring defense
17th vs run
18th vs pass
7th in sacks
4th in tackles for loss
Zero help from offense

I can’t sum up offense rankings without crying. Link to article from everyone’s favorite reporter Susan Miller Degnan:

FIU 30 - Miami 24

It feels great to be the 2nd best team....in the city.

Competition level and situational defense are good arguments to the contrary. But don’t neglect the fact that the offense left them high and dry all year (exception of Louisville).
Point is, they weren’t great, but they weren’t the problem.

gave up 30 points to FIU. that’s a problem!

We lost to fiu, duke, ga tech, and la tech...no unit on this team is any good...stats on D were also inflated by an O that played at a snails pace..

FIU had 297 yards of offense in that game, and 40 of them came on the last run where Miami was selling out to try to get the ball back.

Another game the defense wasn't great, but was clearly good enough to win if the offense was just decent.

3 turnovers, the first giving FIU the ball at the Miami 18 yard line. 0 first half points, even with 2 drives getting to the redzone (one to the 1 yard line). Game wouldn't even have been close had Miami been able to field an offense with a pulse, and that's even with the entire team sleepwalking and probably still drunk from missing curfew the night before.

These threads are becoming tiresome, because the fact remains the team stunk last year, but you can't argue that the defense wasn't light years better than the offense. Sadly though, that's not saying much, because the offense was a complete catastrophe in every sense of the word.
