PREDICTION: Florida will be in the Final Four in 2020

Tre Mann (Nick Lucero/Rivals.com)

I absolutely love the roster Mike White has put together for the upcoming season. The Gators lost some key pieces from last year’s team such as
Jalen Hudson, KeVaughn Allen and Kevarrius Hayes, but they added firepower this year with five-star guards Tre Mann and Scottie Lewis, Virginia Tech transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. and four-star big man Omar Payne coming in. Andrew Nembhard, Noah Locke and Keyontae Johnson
coming back as well make it for a really talented roster and a group I believe will make it to Atlanta next April.

Missouri St will not be an easy opening opponent. Hopefully, Miami plays Xavier in the Championship game.

Miami should play 3 NCAA tournament teams in the Charleston Classic.

From their local rag (Springfield, Mo):

"Missouri State men's basketball has big expectations going into the 2019-20 season and the national media has taken notice. With the Bears being predicted to win the Missouri Valley Conference, numerous outlets have taken notice with one writer calling the Bears a potential "powerhouse."

Only lost to Xavier by three on the road. Don't have a good feeling about this one at all.

Are you more concerned with us (showing up) or Missouri State (the actual opponent)?

Missouri State is 2-2.

Wins: Alabama State (0-3) [Won by 9] and Cleveland State (1-3) [Won by 20]

Losses: UALR (3-1) [Lost by 1] and @ Xavier (4-0) [Lost by 3]

In fairness, the Missouri Valley is considered by some to be the best mid-major conference in NCAA D-1 basketball. Miami should not take them lightly and this could be a good win especially if Missouri State wins their conference tournament championship and make the NCAA tournament.

I fully expect Miami to win 74-60.

A little of both. They are still "integrating" three good xsfers in with their returnees. So, we may be catching them at the right time. Also, that 10:30 AM start -- never know how that will affect teams.

Be interesting to see what the Vegas line is on this one.

The start is 11:30 AM (whew you had me waking up too early there! ) Confirmed at Charleston Classic Website.

Then again, maybe one can't trust their website; says Penn State will be in our bracket now!

BTW: Penn State IS appearing in the Charleston Classic, just next year! (vs. FSU and others, not Miami.)

<My prediction is Miami favored by 5 or 6

Kenpom 154. For reference, UCF is currently 112.

Hurricanes beat SI's pre-season #97 team by 4.

"Our top 100 closes with four teams we see winning their conferences: Missouri State (No. 97), which once again turns to transfers, including West Virginia’s Lamont West; "

Gaytors beat SI's pre-season #227 team by 8.

"It’s been a long fall for Saint Joseph’s (No. 227) since its NCAA tournament berth in 2016, and after firing longtime coach Phil Martelli, new coach Billy Lange has to deal with the loss of the team’s top four scorers."

Let's beat these Gaytors tomorrow and then go for our third championship in this tourney.

STOCK DOWN
Florida
It’s never a good thing when you appear in the “stock down” column two weeks in a row. The Gators followed up a disappointing opening week by needing a late escape to beat mid-major Towson at home before falling on the road UConn on Sunday. Florida scored a total of 125 points in the two games, exacerbating the offensive struggles that doomed it in a 63-51 loss to Florida State. To make matters worse, the Huskies were coming off an upset loss to Saint Joseph’s where the Hawks torched them for 96 points (1.14 per possession). The Gators could only manage 59 points (0.89 per possession), with Andrew Nembhard (14 points, all in the second half) and the fouled-out Kerry Blackshear (15 points) being the only UF players to reach double figures. With Blackshear out, Florida’s offense in the final minutes rested almost entirely on Nembhard trying to make things happen, a good reminder of the Gators’ youth despite all of their talent. Until Mike White's team sorts out its offense, it shouldn’t be considered top-25 good, let alone the top-10 status it started the year with.

A final with us vs Xavier would be good
We are ofc in consolation this Sunday. Xavier and UConn just went to 2nd OT, so we may get Xavier after all (if they lose.) UConn was down 7 or so with a minute and tied it in regulation, wow. (Wish we had such "mensch".)

UPD: In a Buzzer ending Xavier holds on by 1 in 2nd OT, so we get UConn Sunday. WILL NOT BE EZ, GO CANES!

Technically it was Xavier who was down 5 points with 1.5 minutes left and forced OT. And now we get Uconn on Sunday... That's going to be a very tough game to win. I can absolutely see a loss if we play the way we did vs Florida.
