2018 WR/DB Xavier Williams, a Hurricane again?

View as article
Getting back to XW..Didnt people say that he had a better shot at Safety? Didnt we recruit him to be a Safety but he was deadset on being a WR? For him to not see the field at all in meaningful minutes for 4 years shows maybe WR just isnt his skillset.

he doesn't create alot of separation, he does create enough I just expected more with the hype. Hes like an Ike Hilliard type imo.
To me, Pope just can’t connect the mental aspects to his physical gifts. He has some insane feet but to your point, he doesn’t use them to create a lot of separation.

It’s kind of like going to the gym and not using that mind-muscle connection and just going through the motions. Just not clicking for him as well as it could.

Popes situation is all mental and work ethic. There’s a multitude of small guys who aren’t as fast as Pope killing college defenses. The cream rises to the top. And the guy who doesn’t live on the jugs machine and work on his craft and be in the gym will sink. Wiggins is in the same boat. He could all conference. His speed is on display. But that’s all he’s got. He doesn’t work on his craft. He doesn’t fight for the ball

his routes pretty easy to cover, in 7 on 7 he does all that other whacky **** u cant do in games. I seen guys stick with him stride by stride and he has no hands he catches with his body

D. Smith is not a 1st rounder at Miami. Not with our QB/OL play.
No way you can prove that. Maybe not as high in the first round but he would’ve gone in the first. Ahmon was getting passes thrown to him by a dude that couldn’t even make a practice squad with an offense stuck in the past. He doesn’t get hurt and he’s first round.

The whole argument is silly. People fetishize ‘development’. ‘We developed XYZ‘ without asking why we didn’t develop other guys (or blame the other guys). Development for the most part is what happens when you recruit talented kids who work hard and compete hard. Mix in some maturity physically and nutrition and S&C. Alabama does that. Sure, there are some coaching pointers at each position that can help but there is zero reason to think we do that better tha others or that alabama or other top programs do it poorly. If anything, the greater competition that comes from talent and depth and culture helps develop kids - that’s what butch understood.

In any case, williams isn’t evdicence of anything other than that he’s not good enough to be a standout wr at alabama.
It is evidence however that both programs are looked at and criticized differently when a player just “isn’t good enough”.
X comes here it’s all about how we don’t develop and not that he wasn’t good enough and Pope is the prime example of what happens when a player we recruit isn’t good enough. This creates a serious problem recruiting any talent form south Florida when every fan is saying that players we’ve had on our team would’ve been a day one picks if they went somewhere else.
Everything with this program is a **** double standard.
Ingraham at Bama “wrong scheme”
Ingraham at Miami we suck. Look at a certain linebacker on our team from sta that hasn’t started. But look at the number one rated linebacker that Saban recruited that hit the portal despite being there 4 years and not starting one **** game.
How much were we complaining about Zo and calling out the staff for not playing him? He goes to Florida and can’t beat out Nayquan. And Zo was being recruited by everybody.

Prime example is TuTu atwell who torched us every time of course

Id have to imagine they have similar body types

They produce cause they recruit. Not because they develop. Every time I bring this up you defend them. They evaluated Jeudy the same way they evealuated X and took their commitment. One didn’t pan out and it had nothing do with any coach on that staff. He just wasn’t good enough but they have so much talent that they can get away with a dude that didn’t pan out. That sht happens here and that one elite recruit is under a microscope and the minute he doesn’t perform it’s some position coach’s fault.
You recruit enough talented players you’re gonna get high draft picks by default and not because you develop.
I lol every time cause many on here are still complaining about Pope. If we would’ve recruited pope smith and Jeudy to this team no one on here would be shedding a tear over him.
I’m not hearing Anything from Bama about Jones-bell either. But I’m hearing a lot about Leary and hall. Their fans don’t like Jobe even though he’s a starter. But if Jobe wouldn’t be getting a draft grade here after 4 years it would be a coach’s fault and would be saying that if he went to Bama he would’ve been a first rounder just like PS2. The reality is that Jobe was never ps2.
Last time I checked Bama doesn’t have the Corey Raymond of receivers on staff. Going back since Cooper they’ve all had a different receiving coaches over there and almost all of their 1st round receivers made an impact the minute they stepped onto the practice field.
Same position, strength, nutrition, and offensive coaches that coached Jeudy, Smith and Waddle coached X and he was one of the best receivers down here.
The same people that coached Ahmon coached the other dudes here but only one of them looked like a first rounder and I don’t see dugans “developing” at fspoo unless that 5 star wants to play receiver.
You’re barking up the wrong tree. I’ve been Mr. Evaluation for 20 yrs. The kool aid drinkers are the ines who think we have some magic development powder or are special and different in that category. We don’t, and aren’t. What we have are more better prospects in our home area than anyone else. Butch was a great evaluator. Yes, development happens from when they get here - but it’s not some magic formula.

As for alabama, they recruit so well many high ranked guys will wash out. That’s not a knock on them.

This.

The nfl finds its first round picks Everywhere. Dorsett went first. Njoku did. The idea that Devonta wouldnt go fiest at Miami is absurd. It’s based on the nfl not knowing their job. A kid from ND St went third overall. A wr from Minnesota went first round. Miami had 2 first rounders, one of whom didn’t even play this year.

What our coaches have failed at is fielding competitive rosters and teams. We haven’t had kids go to the nfl in lower rounds who then played like first rounders for ages. We haven’t sent a legit all pro to the nfl since calais campbell, unless you count jimmy graham, who was recruited to play hoops at um. Campbell was drafted in ‘08 and was hs class of ‘04 iirc. We’re recruiting the class of ‘22 now.

Processed out. They will probably make up some medical excuse so they get the initial counter back. Thats just how they roll

Who could have ever seen this coming....

A bunch of posts on different sites asking how Alabama oversigns every year as the math doesn't add up. This is one way they do it, the medical loophole. Im sure there were financial or job incentives for him/his family to go along with the plan for one year and vouch for the fake medical condition. Funny how its never a good player who randomly gets one of these career threatening undisclosed conditions

"Alabama's receiving corps this season will not include Xavier Williams. The redshirt junior has not been working with the team since the spring and was recently removed from the online roster. Wednesday, head coach Nick Saban spoke briefly on Williams' absence, stating that he will miss the season with an undisclosed medical condition.
"Ziggy has some medical issues that's keeping him out," Saban said. "Without saying what... he's medically not going to play this year."
Williams, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds has yet to make much of an impact at Alabama, playing behind a stacked receiving unit that has produced four first-round picks the past three years."
