2018 Schedule Released

Ya, I’m cautiously optimistic about our qb play and our d-line situation. But if one of those turns out to be a glaring weakness, we could drop a game or two that we shouldn’t.

That UNC game screams trap game. Going to Blacksburg a week after GT is also a concern as well.

Miami should never lose to Virginia Tech again. We have way more talent than they do. This should be a gimme game every year going forward.

The bar for Miami is no longer Virginia Tech, it's Clemson.

Could and should are different, though. Miami shouldn’t have lost to Pitt last year, but we did. Also, VT is not some scrub team. Should we beat them? Yes, but they’ve always given us problems, even in 2001 and 2002.

Well, we had Larry Coker coaching us in 2001 and 2002. We give VT way too much respect around here. Every time VT plays a real team, other than Miami, they get smoked.

If we lose to VT, that's as bad as losing to Pitt IMO.

The Pitt game was bad... but these South Florida kids are too soft to play in the cold weather. It's just what it is. When is the last time we won a game in cold *** weather?

Our AD should take a page from the SEC school of schedule-making and 1.) schedule way more home games and 2.) make sure your away games are in the state of Florida if possible, or in the south at the very least

Disagree.

Teams up north don't like to play in the humidity in September games in So Fla either.
It's what the body is used to. And the body adjusts.

Are Burns and Spence still "soft" up in Pittsburgh?

I see 11-2. I expect us to make the ACC Championship game again, where, unfortunately, we probably drop another one to Clemson since they are absolutely loaded next year. 12-2 with a bowl win.

11-1?

Huh? I said that I assume we make the ACC Championship game and lose to Clemson. If you add that game into the equation, we go 11-2.

Why the **** do we literally ALWAYS play Pitt the last game of the season. I know we're at home this year, but I'm tired of always having to go up there when its ******* coldest.

Because almost every other team has a "rival" on the last week. UVA-VT, Clemson-USC, FSU-UF, GT-UGA, UNC/Duke or NC State, etc. The ACC created an artificial rivalry with Pitt since our natural rival is FSU, and we don't end the season with them, and our other rival, VT, ends the season with UVA.

well Pitt is continuing their rivalry with WVU now, so looks like thats going to be out of the cards soon too

Well, we're in the Southeast. So being in the Southeastern Conference makes some amount of sense.

And we don't fit in the the ACC - which is a basketball conference.... not to mention that it's the All Carolina Conference. The tobacco road mafia is real ****.

Florida couldn't block us. If we really wanted to get in to the SEC we could.

We're also on the Atlantic Coast, which is the ACC, so.....

We don't fit in the SEC. Culturally we fit in with the ACC, and I spelled out why. Also, those schools can block. UVA initially blocked VT from the ACC. VT and UVA blocked WVU from the ACC (more VT and Beamer). UK has blocked Louisville from the SEC. USC has said they'd block Clemson from the SEC. As for basketball, with the success of our basketball program under Coach L, we're better in the ACC.

Adding Miami would be like printing money for the SEC. They would make so much money they wouldn't know what to do with it. I know it's technically true that Florida could "block" us, but money talks. The other schools aren't going to give up cash just to keep UF happy, they'll turn the screws on them until they allow it.

Just like Clemson or FSU wouldn't be blocked from joining either. It's all posturing. In the end, money talks.

Cultural fit is overrated. How does the fact that Tennessee is a large public school affect Miami? It doesn't.

Anyway - Miami is a fine academic institution, but let's not get too big-headed about it. Outside of South Florida, employers aren't going to look at a degree from Miami any differently than they would a degree from Auburn or South Carolina. If anything, Miami still has the "Suntan U" reputation nationally. And we're certainly not Vanderbilt.

Look, here's what I know - I would rather play in a football first conference, because we're a football first school. And I would rather have Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia on the schedule than Virginia, North Carolina, and Duke.

Gino Torretta thinks we should join the SEC. I'm rolling with Gino.

Ok, you be you, and we'll just stay in the ACC

Of course we will. Boy I'm sure looking forward to hosting UVA and Pitt at Hard Rock next year! Can't wait!

Sure wish we could host Vandy and Kentucky!

They played the last game of the season when they were conference mates. The first meeting will be the season opener in 2022. I doubt any of the games will be the last game of the season (they're only playing 4 times, not continuing the rivalry).

Our defense hates playing GT

But they really don't struggle against GT. They probably hate the chop blocks, though.

That’s it.

Nobody likes playing them because of the chop blocks.

How would you like it. You need eyes in the back of your head. Every play... is someone going to roll up on the back of my knees and blow one of them out.

I was referring to the triple option which they employ regularly. Run it with some success can open up the pass when over-committed backs don't adjust in time.

Look at our defensive stats against GT. We do fine.

My memory still works... so I just looked it up and an interesting point is that GT has dominated in the time of possession for the last four years. They won in 2014 and we miraculously won this year. But as a defensive player that triple option grind has to svck, it's not what they prepare for week in and week out, unless we played the military academies.

It is nice to look at a schedule and really expect us to be in the ACCCG. It's been a long time. See you in Atlanta, Boston, maybe Virginia and definitely in Charlotte!

We almost always hold GT to below their average rushing and total yards.

We have more talent than anyone on that schedule.

We could play an all start team from our 12 opponents and still have more talent.

ACCCG or it's banner time

So, what if we go 11-1 with an OT loss to VT, and VT goes 12-0? Do we fly the banner? Posts like this are dumb.

We're VT's only big time opponent that's played in Blacksburg. The rest are away games including @FSU. VT isn't going 12-0 or 11-1.

For us to do worse than 1 loss in ACC play means we regressed from this year which would be unacceptable. If Richt is going to be be paid like a top coach then he's gotta do what any top coach would do and win this **** conference.

Last year was a growing year for us. Next year anything less than 9-0 going into GT will be a disappointment and anything less than 11-1 regular season and ACC title game trip will be a disappointment.

VT plays FSU, Miami and ND. That's it. They can easily win all those games and go 12-0. So, if they go 12-0, should call for Richt's head? If you say yes, that's dumb, but you do you.
