Watched the condensed game today and came away with some thoughts. LSU should have won this game off of sheer talent but blew it off mental errors. Toney didn’t do much to me in this game or all season. He doesn’t catch the ball, he gets basic jet sweeps, and lines up at wildcat qb. He’s not a big threat. They don’t have homer in threats at running back. Where they get you is that if you over pursue or don’t contain they can make cuts that can gash you for explosive runs of 10 or more yards. Franks can do damage as a runner but again he’s not an explosive runner. One play that really hurt LSU is the speed option to the boundary with Perine. Because the way LSU plays their fronts, Florida with line up trips to the field and would force LSU into that front and run speed option into the boundary. LSU also does some simulated pressures where they only send 4 rushers but it looks like a 5 or 6 man zone blitz to confuse line but stay sound with 7 in coverage. This caused fits for our o-line but they couldn’t get to Franks that day. As a result he was able to complete some big passes. It’s gonna be a dog fight! Big game for Strikers, nickels, and safeties. Anybody else watch that game?
