Seven games into the season it seems pretty clear that these cardiac Canes don’t have that extra gear to pull away from inferior opponents. We have a defense that will bend but not break and should be able to keep us in every game we play but this offense just cannot put together four consistent quarters. For the first time in nearly decade, I actually feel calmer than I should when we are playing from behind. I think our coaches have done a phenomenal job of making second half adjustments, but this team is playing with some serious fire and after a while, you eventually get burned. We had an incredible opportunity to smack a clearly inferior and injured Tarheel team around that just lost by 50+ to VT and once again we had to sweat the game out until the final two minutes.
Now with that being said, I couldn’t be more proud to be 1 of the 5 remaining schools left with an unblemished record. We are heading into November with a chance to clinch our division for the first time ever. The Canes are not only the talk of the town again but we actually get to have a rooting interest in the Playoff Selection Show. Let that sink in for a minute boys. I think every fan on this board agrees that it’s a win and we’re in deal with our remaining schedule. However if for some reason the magic runs out and we lose just one game, we are going to get absolutely crushed by the playoff committee and will need some very fortunate luck to have a spot to play for all the marbles. The fact that we are winning games by a fingernail and dropping in the rankings just shows how hard the voters are going to slam us if the breaks don’t keep going our way.
More importantly though, we just earned ourselves our first night game of the year with a shot to really make a statement and do something special on Saturday and I couldn’t be more excited. Hard Rock is going to be ear drum-popping loud and I think we are going to have a **** of a home field advantage and I expect us to take advantage of it and beat this VT team. See y’all on Saturday.
GO CANES!
