2017 season is overrated

Yeah, I really think that in 2017, we were not as good as our record indicated......and unfortunately, what we are seeing now is the flip side of that, where we are better than indicated by our record. One year we somehow pulled out 3-4 wins that probably could or should have been losses, and this year if you even give us an "average" FG kicker, we're looking at 2 more wins, at the very least.

This year we’re worse than our record. We should have lost both the UVA and Pitt game, but won both. Louisville, if you can believe it or not, would not have been a win 100% of the time, considering that we got outgained. Plus the ACC Coastal is worse than I can ever recall it being this year.

2016 and to some extent 2018 are seasons that were better than the record. Especially since the ACC was actually good in 2016.

But you'll never, ever be able to erase the memory of 2 years ago today. 11/11/17. Miami 41 Notre Dame 8.

For one night, THAT night, Miami was Miami again. And I'll remember every second of that entire day and night at The Rock for the rest of my life.

this. But man, those VT and ND games were incredible.

We just steamrolled a conference opponent, destroyed our rival so bad they fired their coach, are coming off 3 wins in a row, team is starting to play really well and we look to have turned our season around. This is great! What should we talk about?

Felt like we was on top of college football that night and can’t nobody tell me different. We just dismantled a top 3 team in the country who was billed as unbeatable 41-8, Miami was recruiting at an elite level and up until the final week of the regular season we were ranked #2 in the college football playoff . Fun times, wish it could have ended different

Anyone objectively looking at our season that year saw a 7-0 Miami team that had to claw and fight their way to get there against one of the softest schedules in the country. Admittedly, the VT and ND games then happened and it looked like we actually were for real. Ultimately though we came crashing back to earth and showed our true colors -- that we were nothing close to being an elite team.


That's what this year should've been though. If we would've had that luck from 2017 we would've gotten away with some ugly wins against GT and VT and made our way to the ACCCG. The only difference with this year though is that we're actually getting better as the season progresses and are capable of being a legit dark horse.
 
The second half of 2016 and 2019 and more impressive than the second half of 2017, without question. However, the 2017 wins over VT, Notre Dame, and FSU represent our best book of work since 2004. Our last peak was 17 years ago, so Malik Rosier aside, the 2017 team cemented its place in our program’s history. Jacory’s 2009 team is a close second place for context.

Anyway, you forgot to mention that even the Bethune and Toledo games were bad.

To be honest, I am not 100% sure we would have won the Arkansas State game on the road.

I’d say that there would have been about an 80% chance of Miami winning.

I’m not joking.

For God’s sake, we trailed Toledo, at halftime, at home.

Anyway both 2005 and 2017 were 8-3 vs then-major conference teams. Your argument is basically that the 2017 record could have been further padded by a win over some joke opponent.

The 2013 team was overrated by Miami fans (although not the rest of the country) when we were 7-0. However, after the season ended, few Miami fans saw it as a good year.

What’s odd is that 2017 is still overrated even after the season. It’s not like people looked back after the 3 losses to end the season and saw that we never were that good in the first place.

And, to make it all the worse, it proved to be a path to nothing but 7-6 under Richt. I’d definitely think people would have realized 2017 was a meh year after 2018.
