Now that I have your attention...
Let's talk about 2017 attendance and why it matters.

2014, Cincinnatti, Announced Attendance: 43,953 (LOL?)

The above picture is the bane of my existence as a UM alumnus and fan. I was at this game and it was embarrassing enough for me to contemplate not renewing my season tickets in 2015. It is one of a handful of pictures that UF, FSU and other non-UM fans use to trash us on social media. It also happens to be the primary picture used to recruit against Miami for homegrown talent. I mean, would you have brought a recruit to this game? I hate that picture because it reminds me of just how bad things had gotten and how little anyone cared about the program during peak-Golden era. Last year's FAU game is a perfect example of how things SHOULD look week-in-and-week-out for this program:

2016, FAU, Announced Attendance: 57,123

So why does it matter? Simply put, when you stack up the current-state of Miami versus almost any other program in the country, it is the ONLY weapon that can be used against us for South Florida talent. We like to use "put on for your hometown" when we all know the counter argument is "...if only the hometown showed up to watch you". It is the only argument we can never win against our rivals. We've even had commentators take jabs at our attendance during home games on live TV. If you look at our current 2018-2019 classes, you should quickly realize that nearly all of them will have easy access to attend multiple games this season - don't allow them to think twice about this program because of low attendance and lack of excitement at games.

What can I do - I'm already a season ticket holder?
1. Well first off, show up to all 7 home games. No excuses...
2. If you have a conflict for a big game, sell your tickets at a reasonable price - make them easy to buy
3. If you have a conflict for an easy game, give your tickets away to friends/family who you know will respect your gift and show up
4. Promote the sh*t out of our games - UM is a small private school and doesn't spend nearly enough on marketing. They could use the help and its easy for all of us to sell the buzz around this program
5. Buy extra single game tickets as gifts to your employees, coworkers, family and friends - seriously, buy some cheap seats and give them as gifts throughout the season.

Completely agree. I am also still a fan of this (link below). It would really make things look packed in. Make it so it can roll up quickly for FSU, Norte Dame games where we don't need it. I don't know why they don't do this. Just don't sell tickets in the upper deck end zones unless everything else is full first.

What will Miami Hurricanes games look like in 2015, 2016? Take a look | Canes Watch

Also have the former players who live down in South Florida buy tix for some local high school students as well. These guys are loaded and love the program. They could each buy like 20 tix for each game. Would fill seats and also get more high school kids talking about the U whether they play or not. Something has to be done. The attendance thing bothers the **it out of me too. That's the only thing UF, FSU, and others have on us. When Hard Rock is full I do agree its amazing.

Well, there's a big difference between the 2014 product and the 2017 product. Better stadium, better team, better coaches = more fans willing to show up. Put a ******* defense on the field and the fans will get excited.

This is what I've been saying. How we suppose to pull everyone when our atmosphere is dead for half of the games. 1 Honeymoon season doesn't mean we're a better fan base. People should understate the the numbers are inflated because it only take into to account (idk why) by how many tickets are sold (We sold 40k season tickets so every game is going to be 40k plus even if there is only 23 people in the stands) and not how many people arrive. For a fan base that takes a lot of pride in the UM history it unacceptable how we have the attendance of a school like UMass. 5 star recruits don't wanna play in front of nobody. I wish we'd stop making excuses for it because that always seems to happen every time the subject comes up then people complain about the yearly Stadium thread. If our time in Joe Robbie Stadium wasn't so dead most of the time no one would be talking about needing a new stadium closer to campus because the whole purpose of those thread is that maybe a relocation of our stadium would bring in more fans to games even if we're just a solid team. If people love the squad as much as they say they do they'd go and support the team win, lose, or draw.

Colin is 100% right on the fan base thing.. When Miami is average the fan base is at like 30% but when they are winning suddenly everyone across the nation is a Canes fan and rocks Cane apparel.

I've attended pretty much every home game since I moved back to south Florida in late 2001. Attendance is what it is. If the team is good, people show up. If the team is bad people don't. Welcome to Miami.

I was at that Cincinnatti game in 2014. It was the hottest game I've ever been to. I admit, I left my seats and watched a large portion of the game at the bar in the shade of the concourse. Nobody showed up and those who did quickly abandoned their seats for shade. Especially since the game wasn't particularly interesting.

Also, stop the blaming the stadium for UM "fans" being fair weathered. Nobody showed up at the Orange Bowl when Miami sucked either. I guarantee if the team gets in title contention, they sell out almost every game. The real blame falls on UM "fans" who are quick to complain about everything but don't actually bother spending a penny to attend games. Can't blame the stadium, it's been redone and is top of the line. Can't blame the administration, they went out and spent a boatload on new coaches and facility upgrades. The only people left to blame for poor attendance are Miami "fans" who can't be bothered to show up for a home game or two every year.

Attendance was much better in 2016 with the canopy completed.

It's either raining or 90 degrees and humid so it was 100% necessary.

I remember being at the 2013 game against Virginia in a monsoon with about 400 fans in the seats.

Same scenario last year against Pitt and it was nice being bone-dry and completely comfortable in the upper deck.

Also, if you take a picture of the stadium twenty minutes before kickoff, it's always going to look empty. Nobody gets to their seats early. There's no more general admission sections with first come, first serve seats. I'm usually walking down the isle to my seat while the teams are getting ready to kickoff.

People that post attendance threads are doing the work of trolls by bringing attention to PAST (Cincy game pic is 3 years old) poor attendance.

Great job! Make recruiting against us easier, morons.

Attendance has already significantly improved, as has the atmosphere. But the OP doesn't highlight that. He highlights a three-year-old picture of a noon game, during the dead part of the season after we had lost to FSU, during the dark depressing days of the Golden era/fiasco . Nice job, OP. A rival troll couldn't have done a better job.

None of these suggestions will appreciably change attendance numbers. The stands are going to look fine this year, especially if we win. It's not even really an issue anymore. No more than it had ever has been for this program. Because as anybody that is an actual Miami hurricane fan knows, there were plenty of empty seats during the championship era as well.

But even that has changed. Win and they will come.

This is a useless thread highlighting past attendance deficiencies. Nice job, OP.

Bumping...

THANK YOU to everyone who has been committed to showing up to HRS this year, especially the last two games. As I said in another thread, Saturday was INSANE and the crowd was a major factor throughout.

Below is my ever lasting memory of the HRS crowd just prior to kickoff:

Let's close out the regular with a solid turnout for UVA!
