2015 Class: 22 commits so far...

Since this is supposedly going to be a small class and we already have 12 commits...

- Williams is the clear headliner of the class, but some don't expect him to stick. Losing him would be a devastating blow to the quality of the class as a whole, so hopefully they're able to hang onto him.

- Cronkrite and Perry are great gets. Very happy with the commitments of Archibald, Lawson, and Patchan as well.

- The other half of the class is a bit underwhelming, IMO. With the abundance of outstanding in-state talent this cycle, I was hoping we'd be in a better position at this point. Shortly after the last NSD, some expressed optimism that this upcoming class had the potential to be the best one yet under Golden with how strong the talent pool would be in the state of Florida. There's still a long ways to go, obviously, but it's not shaping up that way. Hopefully we're in store for some pleasant surprises.

- Since Gibbons flipped just days before NSD 2014, we've added Brown and Grimsley to the OL and have verbal commitments from Mahoney, Gauthier, Brown, and Feder. That's a lot of bodies on the OL, but more than half of them are low-rated, under the radar types. Some view them as potential diamonds on the rough, others view them as questionable takes. It'll be interesting to see how the four we have committed for this cycle perform during their senior seasons and if we're able to find upgrades in the coming months.

Miami hasn't had a offensive line issue, so I trust the staff when it comes to OL. Coach Kehoe develops his guys well. The defensive line coach is the issue, I don't see progress from the defensive line players.

Bakas reports that Gautier was 2nd Team All State at LT last year.

That would be the case per this Tampa Bay news article:

This class is shaping up well

Totally agree... The ideal is to have class onboard with the exception of the last few pieces prior to the beginning of the season.

It worked last year. Its also a lot easier for the staff to focus on the season.

By the end of summer we will have added another 3 recruits...

I'm just unsure of the class size this year? 18, 20, ??? Thoughts?

Perry or Archibald for both, everyone else are projects I'm tired of taking, this class is shaping up to be horrible, I hope some big time players with connections can turn it around, if not, this year will be a major setback. A little off topic, but I question what is Golden's recruiting philosophy other than recruiting Jersey, does he go for size, speed or what. We are good at evaluating DEs but why bring in DE's that fit a 4-3 perfectly for example.

Demetrius Jackson never even put pads on this time last year and is now a superstar here but you're tired of "projects" even though its March 11 months before they sign?

When have or did I ever criticize D.Jack? If you do not realize the problem we are creating with taking these suspect players with our numbers than your crazy. Throw away the stars for every recruit but film speaks for itself, these players minus perry and archibald are suspect. A lot of these players, not all, also provide us with minimum connections to other good prospects. I can go on and on but I'll save that for later.

:crownpour: TRUST THE TIE :ibisroflmao: AG doesnt need to be coaching down South at any school. He hasnt grasped the concept tha kidst down South like to fly to the ball not play some bs scheme that you would be playing at PSU because you dont have the team speed. Bend but dont break D is for Pussies who lacks team Speed. He cant get top DTs because they want to make plays on the ball and not hold up blockers so the LBs can make the plays. I am not impressed with this recruiting class at all we got the NCAA off our backs and i havent seen nothing special yet. Matter fact only thing i see special is the people who still make excuses for AG :rollcanes:

We're up to 14 now with the commitment of Gordinier. Time to sound like a broken record...

- Williams, Cronkrite, and Perry are the cream of the crop. But Williams is considered unlikely to stick, which is a major problem.

- Lawson, Archibald, and Patchan are very nice additions. Galitz is apparently one of the better kickers in this class, though he may flip if Texas offers.

The rest of the class, IMO, is underwhelming. Definitely concerned by this start and hope we're able to land more blue-chip talent in the coming months.

Why would Galitz flip? He wants to go to a smaller school. UT definitely aint a small school.

QB: Dwayne Lawson
RB: Dexter Williams and Jordan Cronkrite
WR: Emonee Spence
TE: Bowman Archibald
OT: Kevin Feder, Hayden Mahoney, Tyler Gauthier
OG: Leeward Brown
DT: Ryan Fines
DE: Scott Patchan
DE/OLB: Jamie Gordinier
OLB: Charles Perry
K: Drew Galitz

Assuming there are 8-10 more kids left, time to go big big big:

WR (2): Da'vante Peete, Deon Cain (try to flip), One Speedy WR
DT (2): Quentez Johnson (try and get him back), Kahlil McKenzie
LB (2): Tevon Coney, Dominic Sheppard
DB (4): Carlton Davis, Rashad Fenton, Tim Irvin, Jaquan Johnson

Why would Galitz flip? He wants to go to a smaller school. UT definitely aint a small school.

One of the mods here was saying shortly after Galitz committed that Texas insiders still believe he'll end up there if offered.

I'm honestly surprised that so many people seem content and/or completely satisfied with the start to this class. The lack of headlining talent among the 14 current commits has to be a concern, even for those who don't believe stars matter for whatever reason.

We are worries about our kicker flipping, lol man I feel some kinda way about that.. Mean while it honestly is difficult to judge the quality or lack there of of these commits. I know (myself included) we want higher quality kids. My thoughts is I think we are getting what we can get in hopes of closing strong and building around the work horses

Why does everyone keep saying this will be a small class? Going to be close to 25.

2 Reasons (using the numbers from Ofacekilla http://www.canesinsight.com/threads/75652-O%92s-Eligibility-Chart-5-24-2014)

1. SANCTIONS: 9 ships over 3 years. Since AG decided to take Grimsley and Brown (late signees) and if Grey qualifies/enrolls, we will be at 82 for the season. In addition, AG decided to put Kidd on a scholarship. That means we're going to have 6 over the next 2 seasons.

PLUS

2. ATTRITION:We currently have 12 kids expected to leave after this season (out of eligibility). Sure there will be a few kids leave early as well but to get to 25 we're going to need 10 kids to depart (some may transfer, some may leave early) and that is ONLY if AG decides to to not take any penalty next season.

My guess is that AG will need to ask a bunch of people to leave next season and perhaps not give them a 5th year (Wells, King, Armbrister). In addition some kids going into their 4th season (O'Donnell, Hoilett, Dortch, Crow) may need to leave if they can't contribute on the field.
