We also played La Tech in 2003 and 2004, although this was by far the most significant game.

La Tech was a 3-9 WAC team. And we beat them just 42-31.

I think Miami brought in reserves at the end of the game, but Butch really should have known that allowing this many points to La Tech would be bad in computer rankings.

Maybe.

But we were still robbed.

Ok beat the 3rd best team in Florida that year with their #3 QB who couldn't even complete a pass.

They would've been destroyed by us or Spurrier's UF team (that we destroyed in the Sugar Bowl).

Think Dorsey had a Boston College like performance that game too.... That helped make it closer than usual

Obvious troll.

The 2000 LaTech game was a key reason the Canes were shortchanged by the computer polls that put FSU slightly ahead of Miami. An 11-point win at home over a bad LaTech team didn’t help when strength of schedule and margin of victory counted.

Miami rushed for over 330 yards as Dorsey had a poor game with three interceptions. LaTech QB Luke McCown passed for over 400 yards and three TDs, as a true freshman.

FSU beat Florida 30-7 that year.

Miami beat UF by 17, and FSU by just 3 at home.

And UF lost by double digits to 8-4 Mississippi State.

Agree that Miami was cheated out of the title game. But how could you say UF was better than FSU that year? Everything suggests that FSU was a much better team.

When FSU played UF I'm pretty sure they didn't have Outzen as the starter - the 3rd stringer.

In the FSU vs Ok game, Outzen was the QB which is why they couldn't complete a pass and ultimately why they lost to Ok.

Weinke was 1st string and out and someone else was 2nd string and out for the game.

La Tech was Division I-A.

The score against McNeese State might not have mattered. Not sure about that.
The McNeese game didn’t count in the computer rankings because they were 1AA. That was a bigger reason for us getting left out but LA Tech didn't help. As I’ve noted before, ole Bobbuh ran up the score against everyone but us that year.

And Butch didn’t run up the score on unranked Pittsburgh (35-7) and Syracuse (26-0) late in the season. You would think a 28 or 26 margin of victory would be sufficient but FSU beat ranked NC State 58-14 and Clemson 54-7.

One of my favorite moments of 2000 was the season ending home game against BC. Davis did not want to blatantly run up the score. Up 45-6 in the fourth quarter BC has to punt, and Santana Moss is benched for a punt return. He had already housed one earlier. Daryl Jones gets return man duty. All he does is run back the punt 86 yards for a TD and a 52-6 lead. The cameras showed Butch mouthing ‘sorry’ across the field to BC HC Tom O’Brien. O’Brien understood, and almost seemed to be laughing.

I remember this game. There is no question that it cost us a trip to the national title game, where we would've whooped on OU for ring #5.

Canes were thinking of the week ahead to when Michael Vick and the Hokies would come to town. Vick ended up being injured for our game but he still played, and we blew them the f out of the OB. One of the best feelings ever was the crowd chanting "O-VER-RATE-ED" in unison at the half while Vick and the Hokies headed into their locker rooms.

But the damage we suffered vs. LaTech was insurmountable. Our struggles against them looked terrible in comparison to how FSU completely obliterated the rest of their regular season opponents, included ranked NC State, Clemson, and UF teams.

I still stay we got robbed--we beat FSU!--but the eggs we laid that year vs. LaTech (as well as UW earlier in the season) cost us big.

We struggled mightily against LaTech. They ran a spread offense with super wide(4 or 5 yard)splits between offensive linemen. Butch did not seem to have any answer - even resorting to using only 1 defensive lineman.
Dorsey had his worst game of the year.
If it wasn’t for our run O we would have lost.
The game was at least as close as the final score indicated.

For those questioning whether or not we got robbed, Bobby Bowden himself admitted that we were the more worthy opponent for OU:

"When I look at it now, I think it should have been Miami and Oklahoma," Seminoles coach Bobby Bowden said. "We didn't look like we belonged here."

With that said, knowing that our fate would be decided by computers, we have no one to blame but ourselves for failing to dominate a clearly inferior opponent in LaTech as expected.

Your handle is Meth. Why not do us all a favor and overdose on it tonight?
Shît. I just cleared him of trolling because some of his posts were in depth Canes stuff that seemed legit even though his name screams troll. If you guys think otherwise, you can bring charges.
