Gators play at 6:30 tonight. UF will be playing 5 games in 7 days this week.

UF closer got ripped last night, threw 40 pitches, which is great for us

Guessing that Chestnutt opens with Vargas to follow.

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's baseball team will make the trip across the state to Coral Gables Wednesday to face the University of Miami. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be available via the ESPN app and ACC Network Extra.

The Eagles are coming off a series win over another in-state foe as they took two out of three from Bethune-Cookman University last weekend at Swanson Stadium. The Eagles pecked out a 5-4 victory over the Wildcats in the series opener last Friday, then used a Jacob Lojewski grand slam Saturday to roll to a 10-3 win. The Wildcats got a measure of revenge Sunday with a 5-1 win in the finale.

After a rough start to the season for the FGCU pitching staff, the Eagles' hurlers picked up the pace over the last four games. Last week, the Eagles posted a team ERA of 3.75. Opposing batters hit just .225 against the FGCU staff, with FGCU's weekend starting pitchers allowing three earned runs over 12.2 innings of work.

Matt Kavanaugh is tentatively set to start for the Eagles Wednesday night. In his last outing, Kavanaugh went 2.2 innings against Indiana State, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Ben Chestnutt is the projected starter Wednesday night for the Hurricanes. In his only outing of the season, Chestnutt allowed four runs on five hits over 3.2 innings in a home loss to UCF.

Miami is 5-2 overall in 2024. The team took two out of three from Long Island University over the weekend, winning the opener and the rubber game while dropping a 4-2 decision in the Saturday contest.

Miami leads the all-time series 27-6. The 2023 season was the first non-COVID season since 2013 that the two teams didn't play. FGCU holds the last win in the series, a 7-2 victory over Miami May 17, 2022. Harrison Povey had three hits and an RBI in the contest.

With Carrier and Farrow playing right field in the same game, we are at least guaranteed to get a laugh at some point tonight.

Seems like JD maybe reads this board - some of you have been saying this is what 1-4 should be!
