17 True Freshmen Have Playing Time; 2 games in...

Our fans have called the team "young" for about 8 straight years. Enough ******* excuses.

We played 7 true freshmen in the opener vs Louisville. Very common. The number jumped to 17 after we emptied the bench vs cupcake FAMU.

This isn't the NFL; roster turnover happens fast and often.

Tennessee has played 22 true freshmen this season, the most for any FBS program in the nation to date. The Vols played 21 true freshmen against Utah State, a school record for a season opener.

Of the 71 players who played for the Vols against the Red Wolves, 45 percent were playing in their first college game (32 total).

Attrition is not due to poor evaluation, it's due to poor development. On and off the field. What ever structure they have in place is simply not working. That Is Simply Astounding that in year 4 we have 17 true FR playing. That is ridiculous and shows we are no where close to even being a top team. Clear evidence. It's worst that 2012

ok why does everyone keep saying demetrius jackson didn't play? he definitely played special teams in the louisville game. watch the return for the td.
 
Any issues on the roster are all on Gorlden at this point. **** the cloud, no more blaming radio, he whiffed on a bunch of guys he liked at his camps and we all no about the DT situation, though Heurt, and Jenkins seem to be playing well.
 
This is evidence that player development is not happening! We no better off than we were 2 years ago playing freshmen against grown men! Sure sign and further evidence that Golden and Staff lack the most critical components of coaching, ie, DEVELOPMENT! SCHEMING! ORGANIZATION! Even worse is our record on 3rd downs and giving up on average over 400+ yards a game against ranked teams! I need my *** kicked for not going into college coaching! You can be a failure and still make over a Million $$$.
 
I don't really care for the guy, but Colin Cowherd said something a while ago about True Fresman: "you either have it as a frosh or you don't." Then he rattled off a list of true freshman.

I don't totally agree but there is some truth there--you are who you are. Either you got it or you don't.
 
Isn't this whole discussion premature as far as this year goes? I expect a good chunk of those 17 true freshman will still redshirt this year. Anyone know the rule on what percentage/how many games you can play and still shirt? I feel like it's 3 or so.

This trend seems to follow Golden. He led the country playing 22 and 23 true freshmen in his initial two years at Temple. The notion that he has already played 17 in his 4th year is scary. The bulk of rebuild should have been accomplished and true frosh slotted in selectively or for depth.
 
That article looks like our was written by Greaseball's secretary. Trying to create excuses where they shouldn't exist to keep the heat off Greaseball.

Greaseball empties the bench against a terrible FCS team and plays a bunch of freshmans he didn't have to play and wasn't forced to play because of injuries, and now we are relying on freshmans according to the simpleton blogger and all the dopes who ate that **** up without thinking.

If they played a single snap in a single game they can't redshirt unless they suffer a season ending injury.

Maybe because both his HC jobs required major rebuilding and one in the midst of an NCAA investigation.

Moten, Brady, and Linder are the biggest wastes of a RS so far. We have enough talent and depth in front of them to not waste a year getting a handful of snaps.

He brought in a lot. ...alot of players in his time here. There is no way I'm year 4 u should be relying on so many true FR. No way. The investigation didn't mess with our numbers, it messed with some of our quality no doubt but Golden has brought in a bunch of players and they are not being developed.

First it was against FAMU.. FAMU games and the like are games when true freshman get more pt.

As for player development.. Please explain guys Armbristers, Gunter, Pierre, Fentress. All lightly recruited players that are major contributors that are playing beyond their expectations.
 
Player development isn't a beef of mine to be honest. Guys have been getting better each year but it's being wasted unfortunately. Golden is doing these kids a disservice.
 
If our secondary is perceived as a strength, what does it say that Mayes gets serious PT? Same for the receiver position and Brady?
