Poles mean little before about week 9. Top 7 or 8 at that time teams with any chance of making play offsm

There is a less than zero chance that Miami gets in over an undefeated Notre Dame even if Miami wins the ACC championship. The bcs committee knows which team will get the most national attention, and it's the team that has a broadcast channel all to itself (NBC).
You are thinking like Canes fans, not business men. Miami and UW both played on neutral fields, Miami got blown out, UW lost by a point. We need ND to drop a game, otherwise it will "represent" the ACC.
If Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma all win their conferences undefeated, that leaves two conferences (ACC and Pac 12, plus ND) vying for last spot. If Clemson wins out plus ACC championship, they are in. If 1 loss Miami wins ACC, then 1 loss Pac 12 champ or undefeated ND gets in (and since ND is affiliated with the ACC, it makes the decision easy for BCS). We need a few upsets to happen to get a spot in playoffs. Running the table and winning acc championship does NOT get us if sec, big 10, big 12 champs plus ND are undefeated.
I don't think four teams have ever finished undefeated before, but the bag game has ruined the competitiveness of college football so I think there is a decent chance you have 4 undefeated teams this year at the end of the regular season (and if you think I'm exaggerating about the impact of the bag game, look back on the underrated/overrated coach survey from a few months back where even other sec coaches said Saban cheats to get recruits).
Why is Alabama suddenly the most dominant team in recent memory (according to the media)? Because they have, for the first time in decades, an elite qb. How did they get the most elite qb recruit out of HawaiI? They bought his family, moved them to Bama and found his parents high paying jobs in Tuscaloosa. This isn't some secret, it's out in the open but Bama has both NCAA protection and boosters who know every trick in the book.
Ohio State should be playing the season without Urban Meyer, but the NCAA wasn't going to touch one of its cash cows.
Oklahoma isn't as bad as the others, so I will say they just have an excellent system (there are maybe 2 coaches who I think would turn Miami into a juggernaut through coaching acumen and not via the bag game like Saban, Lincoln Riley is one of the two).

The good news is, we do know kosi can throw over the middle, i can see why they bringing him along slowly tho, going to be an interesting game, here's to jaquan being back, cause carter missing to many open field tackles, plus he not holding the outside when he comes up on certain plays.Yeah, that's the proverbial million dollar question. Will CMR, finally, open up the offense and what not. Even a simpleton of the Cane degree, like my self, knows the Cane's have beaucoup weapons on offense. Who knows, may be CMR will exploit FSwho's suspect defense this Saturday. But then again, U never know what' going on with CMR and junior.

Agreed. I know it doesn't really matter at this point and it's not worth getting worked up over, but it does show how nonsensical the polls can be. Kentucky got their big boost for beating MSU....an MSU team that was criminally overrated. They were #14 for absolutely no reason other than their SEC affiliation and a decent end to last season. If MSU were in any other conference, they would have been ranked in the high 20's, if at all, to start the season. Losing to UF in such an ugly game shows how weak MSU was all along. You are correct about Michigan as well, they have a loss to a team that is ranked below the team we lost to, and their wins are no better than ours, and in fact they struggled against a bad NW team.
Wisconsin hasn't beaten a good team, and lost to an unranked team, and are higher than us. Michigan's wins are against weaker competition than ours, and includes barely scraping by a very bad NW team that lost to Akron and got whipped by Duke, and their loss is to a team ranked below the team that beat us. To say we are fortunate we are at 17 would mean that what...Florida? Colorado? NC State? are better than us? Based on what?

I personally think the big 12 is going to cannibalize itself towards the end the season.
Also the committee loves them some dabo so Clemson's in if they win the ACC. If we finish 12-1 we'd have a "quality" loss and arguably the best win other than someone maybe beating bama.
I point that out to several UCF grads I work with and they are convinced that they are the legit real national Champs and best in the nation. I usually just agree with them to make em happy and shut t up
Why should Wisconsin get the benefit of the doubt? They lost to an unranked team that lost to Cal and squeaked by a bad Arizona squad, and Wisconsin hasn't beaten anybody. They look pretty much the same as Michigan.

Lost to an unranked BYU team....a BYU team that also lost to Cal. Sure, they were within the top to start the season. So were we. We then lost to what turned out to be a top 5 team in the nation, and dropped far more than they did for losing to what has turned out to be a middling unranked team. As for Wisconsin compared to Michigan, previously a big deal was made that Michigan only lost to now #6 ND by only a TD. But now when compared to Wisconsin suddenly Michigan is worse despite Wisconsin losing to an unranked BYU compared to Michigan's "good" loss? The rationale being used is all over the place, and completely different from team to team.
Isn't that cute, LWFCANES is on her usual mission to downvote every single post of everyone she doesn't like, without contributing a thing.

Yes, everyone knows you don't believe in Miami, never have. Your posts show that repeatedly. You hold Miami to one standard while given every benefit of the doubt to other teams that you don't give to Miami. I'm not hoping you'll agree with me, and I certainly won't agree with you. The illogic is you using one set of reasons why Michigan's loss to ND makes them so much better than us because of our loss to LSU (which has some logic), but then saying that Wisconsin's FAR worse loss to a mediocre unranked team in BYU DOESN"T matter as much and they are still better and should get the benefit of the doubt over Michigan. Instead of pretending to use valid arguments just admit you are going by who you like better.

Pretty sure the highest rated playoff teams automatically go to the closest location. I certainly hope we go even more than usual, I've got suite tickets.
So you downplay the Wisconsin loss to a very mediocre 2-loss, unranked BYU team as simply "unexpected", and point out that they weren't completely outclassed. Doesn't matter if they were "outclassed", they lost to a middling unranked team. If we lost to Toledo, even by one point in overtime, you'd be trashing us for it. They lose to BYU and it's not a big deal, and somehow even less of a deal than Michigan losing to ND by a touchdown. Forget Miami, what is your basis for giving Wisconsin a pass, and the benefit of the doubt, as you said, over Michigan? What standard are you applying?
Make up your mind. Before it was our loss against LSU was terrible so it was a really big deal. Now, "one loss is one loss" and it doesn't matter that Wisconsin's loss was to a mediocre team and Michigan's was to a highly ranked team, you still give the benefit of the doubt to Wisconsin. Losing to an unranked, fairly bad team like Wisconsin did is FAR worse than losing badly to the #5 team in the nation.
