Redshirt Candidates:

Joe Brown
Al-Quadin Muhammad
Matt Goudis
KC McDermott
Jelani Hamilton
Demetrius Jackson
Earl Moore
Terry McCray
Rashawn Scott
Malik Rosier
Rayshawn Jenkins
Mike Smith
Darrell Langham
David Njoku
Tyler Grimsley

Some of these won't make it because they may or may not be granted medical waivers (Goudis) or they may be forced into action (Brown).

But it's good to finally see us be able to shirt some guys.

Herndon, Gray, Brady, Gayot, Young should have been on that list. None have taken meaningful snaps and all are going to lose a year.

Nah, there's nothing wrong with putting young talent on specials.

ST26, Vilma, Rolle, and a host of others, all cut their teeth playing specials.

Rather have them running around on Special Teams than Denzel Perryman and Clive Walford.

Every single one of those guys actually played in games and were on the depth charts. Guys like Juwon Young aren't. Terrible roster management.

Herndon, Gray, Brady, Gayot, Young

gray, brady, should have redshirted.

gayot and young were needed for ST. With Herndon, Beau Sandland leaving complicated things.

Yeah these situations are not alike at all. These guys will say anything to make coach look good.

Comparing 4th string RBs, TEs, WRs to Vilma, who was Dan Morgans backup.

Wonder if the staff wishes they had Armbrister for another year? Nah they are cool with having no depth at that position.

Herndon hasn't played except in mop up duty, maybe 15 snaps all year, none meaningful. You don't think Walford, Dobard, and O'Donnell could have handled the TE spot this year?

Armbrister gets the "Sinorice Moss" award for a player we will wish the staff didnt just carelessly burn the redshirt on. Its comical how this kid is FINALLY getting it but now we lose him in exactly 4 games. Smh.

People on here dont really believe in the redshirt theory, but I hope seeing the play of Clive Walford has changed some views. Having him as a 5th year senior has REALLY helped his draft stock and helped Kaaya.

I agree that Gray should have redshirted. He is getting meaningless snaps if any at all. Brady too.

Two guys who I think are going to benefit most from shirting are AQM, Deme Jackson and Earl Moore. I think these 3 are going to come out and really help us on the Dline next year in the two deep rotation.

Gayot gets play time and has been great on ST. He's taking somebody's job next year.

Oh and fokc UF with no lube ...and fokc the Noles too, no lube extra chalk.

Actually taylor and rolle almost never played a meaningful snap. The nickel for that team was lewis, reed, fitzgerald, rumph, and buchanon. That NEVER changed. Vilma did see time in the nickel with Morgan. He never played the base D which was Clark and Campbell. Those guys saw time because we used to actually blow people out back then which we can never do now due to mediocrity.

You're always going to have some young guys on st. In fact, you can almost judge a team by their st--if you see young guys fluing down there leveling people at the 10, you know there's a ton of young talent that's going to be a force at some point--2002 and 2003 for us.

Add Kellen Winslow to that list as well in 2001. Ran down on kickoffs for the most part in his freshman year.

Are you serious?

You sound like a moron brah.

As my colleagues just mentioned above, K2 was running down on Kickoffs. Where the **** were ST26 and Rolle in the depth charts? Neither of them dudes were in the 2 deep.

Golden does enough to look bad on his own, I don't need to fabricate stuff to make him look worse and I won't.

It's like saying I hate Janet Jackson because she can't dance.

You morons will say ANYTHING to make Golden look bad, which makes you fools look even more stupid because what makes him bad is so freaking obvious.

Rolle was 4th corner I believe. Taylor was Reed's backup. They were on the depth chart they just never played a meaningful snap. But I don't know what "on the depth chart" means. Young is on the depth chart somewhere too.

I don't spend a lot of time dwelling on roster management but the idea that we could just redshirt every freshman who is doing nothing useful but ST seems far-fetched. Depth is in part for ST. That's a major role for true freshmen, and I personally think redshirting has lost some value in the modern era. If a guy needs to be around for 5 years, he's probably not a great player and oftentimes somebody you want to get through anyway. There are obviously exceptions.

I keep seeing McDermott's name thrown around regarding a medical redshirt. I thought that he wouldn't be eligible due to that whole 30%/3 contest rule. Is there some loophole I don't know about?

Are you young? If so, work on your Canes history. They were on the 2 deep. Taylor backed Reed. Rolle was on 2 deep as well. Vilma backed Morgan. He played a lot vs FSU after Morgan had to go in for fluids. An injury and they are playing major minutes. I got no problem with that.

Herndon is the 4th TE
Young is the 3rd MLB
Gayot the 5th S
Gray the 4th RB
Brady is the 7th WR

There is a difference. And if you need Young and Gayot on STs then fine. But to blow a RS on the other 3 is dumb, especially Gray.

What is the redshirt theory?

The whole line of thinking that, "Whats the point of redshirting? they are going to leave after 3 years anyway if they are good enough?"...Alot of players need that redshirt..We are going to look back at handling of Trayone Gray and be sorry we didnt give him one. Totally a waste of a year for him.

Running back is the least likely of the positions for that to come back to haunt you. If Gray is a guy we're really gonna want 4 years from now then he actually would be in the NFL with a year of service already. A redshirt year isn't changing that. Being productive as a redshirt sophomore as opposed to a true junior gets you drafted all the same.
