2017 Canes vs 2024 Canes?

Does a Malik Rosier led team beat us because of Guidry?
Not in a million years.

The 2017 team was a result of pure luck & once the luck ran out, they ran smack dab into a brick wall & couldn't score anymore.

They could only put up 2 scores on Pitt & the 2nd TD didn't come until literally the last minute left in the game. In the 3rd quarter, we had 6 straight Offensive drives they ended in a Punt.

Yall forgot when Kurt Benkert & Logan Woodside put up 340+yds on that 2017 Defense. Cam would moonwalk & 🤭🫳 all over the 2017 squad.

Dude - Ahmmon Richards and WR kid that transferred to UGA (idk his name…he also mossed the DB in the Notre Dame game)…..Mark Walton and Herndon and those boys would score every time they had the ball.

Cam Ward would literally lose this game simply due to punting more than once. Plus that 2017 DEF was no pushover - something clicked that year where we finally stopped beating ourselves and forced teams to beat us.
Fair but you are overthinking it...

Its Cam Ward vs Rosier.

El, it’s hard to combat any of this…. I’ll take my *** to bed and try again tomorrow.

Golden recruited ok and developed great. He hired poorly and it killed him.
Somehow, he did recruit ok, but he didn’t develop anybody. He wasted a few players entire college career, Chick being the obvious example. He couldn’t get his talent to do squat for Miami. A lot of his players got more burn and had more success in the NFL than they did at Miami.

And no, he didn’t develop Duke Johnson or Perryman. Those guys were going to be studs wherever they went.

This is what makes me cringe a lot when I have discussions on this board. I don't think the vast majority of people here have any clue what they're watching. The 2017 team finished SIXTY-THIRD in the country in scoring against FBS teams. It wasn't great to begin with, and then when Herndon and AR went down, it was totally cooked.

The 2024 team was way, way, way, way, way better than the 2017 team. And yes, even with how terrible the defense was. The 2024 offense would put up 30+ in their sleep against the 2017 defense. The 2024 version of this program was the best TEAM we've had in 15+ years. People just refuse to acknowledge that, I guess because we didn't win the ACC. But it's factual. This isn't a discussion about season accomplishments, it's about comparing Miami teams. And the 2024 team was a consensus Top 15 team by every single metric you can find. I haven't been able to say that in a very long time.

You're 100.0% correct, the 2024 team would dog walk that 2017 smoke and mirrors team. We were down to a 6-6 FSU team who ran Jimbo outta town after the year they were so bad. We needed a miracle catch to beat a 5-6 GT team, AT HOME. Pitt went 5-7 this year, and as you mentioned, we auditioned our punter all **** day against them. You know how many top 3 round players were on that team? ONE. Chad Thomas is the only kid who played in 2017 who was drafted before the 4th round, and he was Round 3.

That team had fun moments, it was not a very good football team.

How was this the beginning of our losing streak against Wisconsin lol

After looking back, cant believe I asked this. Those 9 wins each are very different.

Despite Onion’s beef with recruiting Central, Palmetto, etc, we still had a better crop of NFL talent.

I wonder if we would’ve been better off if we didn’t lose to USF and he kept his job another year knowing Golden was the choice.
He would not have kept his job regardless even if we had found a way to squeak by USF.
