10 things I want to see against CMU this week

Mensah, Toney, and Fletcher need to get their stats as quickly as possible and then sit.

We need a Heisman for national relevance, clout and recruiting.

I need to see changes to the O Line.

1. I want to see Mensah, Mali, Moten, and Fletcher play the least amount of plays possible.

2. I want to see Nickel and even Coleman play as many snaps as possible, especially whoever they plan to be our #2 QB in case of an emergency. Full offense.

3. I'm not going by priority, or else this one would be #s 1-5, but I'd like to see evidence of the supposed plan that our OL will look different in November. "We're getting guys ready and slowly bringing them along," except up 24-7, 31-7, and 31-13, we didn't see a lineup change.

4. I would LOVE to see an actual OL lineup change combinations instead of rotation. Even if you want our Tackles and Center to stay exactly where they are, then sit them down alongside Mensah, Mali, Moten and Fletcher. Let's see someone else at RT, especially. Cantwell, I'd hope, but Hawks, too.

5. While we're rolling out this makeshift DBackfield, I would love to see us tighten up our zones. I mentioned on a separate thread how absurd we look sometimes when LBs drop into the ether. But, to add, we had Safeties/DBs basically holding hands on one play while a zone was totally vacated. Can we clean this up?

6. To that end, can we see different LBs get early snaps? Like a lot of early snaps? CMU basically runs the ball, and I'd like to see more pass coverage reps, but I'll take whatever we can use as development time and tape.

7. I'd like to get another glimpse of Keona Davis at DT and then a lot of reps for some young DTs. I know we won't likely trust them unless there is "no choice" need, but I didn't love what I saw from Keona Davis inside against Wake. We absolutely need a strong top 4 DT rotation, and Davis looked more like Blount in 2025 where he'd be a better fit as a pass rushing DT than someone who could consistently hold the POA if he's needed to start. Maybe he just needs more reps and to play with more leverage, or maybe he's better suited for a different role (hybrid or 5T?). This is the type of game to figure that stuff out.

8. I don't want to see a single KOR on either side. Just eliminate those risks in this type of game.

9. Circling back to individuals, I'd like to see a backup Center get a solid amount of snaps. Woodrow? Buchanan after him? Someone. Let's see 20+ snaps.

10. I'd like to see Wingo and Jacobs into the boundary at WR. Show it off.

Add your own or just pray. Let's get healthy.

No, but seriously, maybe we play some better zone, perhaps Wingo in the boundary... but that's it.

11. No Mali on punt returns until Notre Dame or a true break-the-glass situation

12. Lyle or Mallory step up and assert themselves as a strong #2 backup to Fletch

13. A linebacker who can cover and play comfortably in space

14. A big performance from Barkate, Upshaw, or Wingo (need a non-Mali receiving threat to emerge)

15. Adapt the running game to our strengths--less inside duo and a-gap, more outside zone, pitches, etc.

I fully agree except for
- kickoff return, people are over reacting imo. Players needs reps and to clean up the ST penalties. In fact this applies to ST as a whole, we need vastly MORE emphasis on this area. I want to see us be aggressive on Punt Block, aggressive on Punt return - I actually think put Pringle back at PR this game as we shouldn’t want Toney there and Barkate doesn’t do anything there tbh.
- so funny we all want backup center to get reps, and not a whisper of a mention of SH there. It’s actually hilarious at this point to me tbh. (Not a critique if you, more the staffs decisions… the fact Woodrow is more ready at center than SJ is legit insane to me)

I want to see
1. Cantwell at OT for STARTER REPS, not just backups.
2. Smith not start - I want a HEAVY rotation if Wiley, Pruitt, and Bonner EARLY AND OFTEN
3. I want to see Seatbelt at least as much as Damari. and Dunnigan at Nickel on passing downs and maybe getting Dylan Day some burn (when our CBs are healthy, I think we want Dunnigan+Fitzgerald in more together at Nickel+S over Thornton)
4. We have gotten little to no production out of DT and Moten has been hurt a lot recently. We NEED to get the young guys valuable reps now.
5. Mueller and Asharri Charles, can either contribute this year?

TBH Lu it really ain't a whole lot left to say...

Nuances aside, you hit on all the major issues brah...

Guess I'll just prayer...

Why not just start 2nd team offense and defense.

We need to build depth and we don't need a core player hurt.

We need to make sure we have a comfortable lead. You can't just roll out the 2nd team from the get-go.
CMU is not a good team, but they do run alot of stuff that looks like triple-option, so there is some preparation for that stuff that the starters need to shut down.

wtf. Didn’t know that was a thing. Is there a possibility he misses Clemson and maybe even extended time?
It was report by P. Ariz on his podcast earlier today. Not sure about current status but my sense is that we/he may want to play it safe. If there is is even the slightest concern (hence the 2nd opinion) that this injury could get worse by playing on Saturday, then sit this one out.

Aside from health…

Really want to see our fronts enforce their will, on both sides of the ball. Even with Moten probably sitting out (I hope), this is a G5 team that prioritizes running the pill but we should be able to neutralize that easily IMO. OL goes without saying, would like to see a different line up. I’ve already stated that if it doesn’t happen Saturday then I don’t really expect it at any point this season, which would be very discouraging IMO.

More Nickel, more Wingo, more Briggs/Mueller, and more Wiley/Pruitt.

1)no injuries
2)no moten, mail or fletch-get healthy
3)Mensah to barkate, wingo and Jacobs in 1st half-develop chemistry
4)cantwell starting at G. Assuming McCoy won’t get kicked inside

I’ll pray your plan is addressed.

Need Brown, Lyle, Lofton, the LBers, the OL and the WRs to live up to the offseason and camp hype. Run the offense. Coach to win.
