In VT game we motioned the offset TE (who is usually Arroyo) 10 times (1 may have just been fixing a misalignment). When he motioned from outside 1 tackle to somewhere else behind the OL we ran 100% of the time (7/7). When he motioned to the complete opposite side of the field we threw 66% of the time (2/3). One was the 40+ yarder up the sidline.
It's definitely a tendency we need to break. During the USF game they got a TFL when their defender who was responsible for Arroyo just ignored him, sold out and fired into a gap on a Fletcher run. I do remember us hitting the offset TE in the flats a couple of times earlier this year on play action, but don't remember if he was in motion pre snap. Hopefully we see a playfake off that motion against Cal and we leak Arroyo out. To Arroyo's credit he did a much better job blocking off that motion against VT, but the RBs decided to cut back away from TE block (Lyle once and Martinez a few times) too much when we actually had it blocked pretty well. But yeah if you're running 100% of the time into a heavy box out of condensed formation it's gonna make it easier for the defense to stop it. Gotta make them respect the threat of a pass out of that action.
Good eye,.
