“COmmissioner” Josh Pate Reworks the CFP and Bowl Season

Let me guess before watching:

No CCG
Expand to 16 teams (maybe even do a 4 team play in for the last two spots)
Start CFP soon as possible (no byes)
Portal window for everyone starts Fri after NCG

Commissioner Hold My Beer (nice ring to it, huh) says:
  • Pull the plug on conference championship games
  • 24-team playoff begins the Saturday after Thanksgiving
  • First Round, Second Round and Quarterfinals hosted by the higher-seeded team
  • First Round: Seed Nos. 1 thru 8 get a first-round bye (Dec. 5th, 2026)
  • Second Round: (Dec. 12th, 2026)
  • Quarterfinals: (Dec. 19, 2026)
  • Semifinals; (Jan. 1, 2027) at predetermined sites bid for by cities/venues that want to host
  • National Championship (Jan. 9, 2027) permanently hosted at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena

He has the semis on the 3rd week of December & the NC game on New Year's Day.

I hadn't peeped the video yet ...

Was it 24 teams with no CCG's and the season moved up to where it ends the week before Thanksgiving?

Rose Bowl forever? Nah...

I agree **** that

(y)

Curious, though, what y'all don't like about it?

It would Make the Rose Bowl the cathedral of College Football, similar how Wembley Stadium is with English soccer. One place every season teams would be working toward

Much preferable imo to random NFL venues wherever they may be located

So every sec team is automatically in the playoffs I guess
I kinda don't hate this. What this definitely does is ensures that teams who have an easy path during the regular season (G5+B12) have to earn their way into the deeper parts of the playoffs instead of just being granted it "because equity, y'all!"

To me, that's the best part of the expanded playoffs. No matter what your path was getting into the playoffs, or how inflated your ranking may have been because you were in an insulated overrated conference, once you get in, you actually have to beat multiple teams to even get to the semifinals, so we really DO get to see who's actually good against good teams from other conferences.

The permanent Rose Bowl thing is stupid, everything else sounds good to me.

For those that actually watched the 3min clip, he’s actually on to something. Elephant in the room would the albatross NFL and viewership being split - and the CFP leaders know the NFL wins that battle every time.

Pate is thinking about what’s best for the players, coaches, and fans, but he knows that there’s zero chance of it happening if the CFP leaders think that it’ll cost them $$$.

I am so sick of this guy's bald head

@RVACane can you please help out our Cane brotha by placing one of those amazing Elton John rugs on Josh Pate's bald dome?

Yeah, the NFL is literally the only thing that can beat College Football on TV.

If the CFB seasons ends a season a week or two earlier, most of the playoff games can be completed within the mid-December window when the NFL can't schedule games on Saturday due to the Sports Brodcasting Act of 1961

I want no system that relies on polls or human opinion whatsoever. None.

We need conferences to have divisions. Take division winners as automatics. Conference winners as home field advantage holders. ****, take the top two from each conference division.

Anything to get away from stupid human polls. I am SICK of hearing about strength of schedule based solely on idiot's opinions. I never want to hear about Alabama's gauntlet of over ranked teams. Never again. No more excessive conference representation based on opinions. Enough already.

It's NFL model time, or as close as we can get to it.

And yes, keep the bowl games and use them as playoffs. I said that 30 years ago, and at least THAT started happening.

Just start the season the weekend of Aug 15th with the 2nd tier of bowl games (PopTarts, Gator, Holiday, etc) matching up top 20 teams and then the season ends on January 2nd with the national title. Nothing else has to change.
