We don't get decent crowds now, except for a few marquee games. That's exactly how it was back when we were an Independent.

From what I've read, think Texas and OU will be "functional" in the SEC by 2023.

After the 2001 NC, here in the DC-NoVA-MD area, I saw UM merch not only for sale but on kids' backs. Of course, that wasn't sustainable with the mediocrity that has dogged us since.

With the right AD and coach, UM is FAR more likely to see a basketball championship before another one in football. The demographics, economics/budget, etc. point in that direction. Duke is more of a comparative model for UM than Alabama. In that sense, the ACC is UM's best conference fit.

A decade or so ago, Miami seemed to be trying to position itself academically as the "Harvard of the South." A lot of talk about how UM had made such tremendous strides. The various magazine "ratings" (like US News & World Report, Forbes, etc) of UM seemed to validate the upward trend. The Sun...

BS. They used to play Army every year too, back in the day.

No. Just reporting what seems to a consensus among a particular audience. In one case, a host paused several beats at the mention of UM (like he was giving it some serious thought), then said, "Uhh, Miami? (count to five), No!"

Every radio talk show I hear, the callers and hosts discount any SEC interest in Miami. Clearly, they universally still think more of FSU's program and, for that matter, prefer UCF these days. Indicator of how far we've fallen.

Having done college recruiting at UT often, I agree with you. Not very scenic at all. Come to think of it , though, I really can't say any university in Texas made much of an impression on me (and I've pretty much seen them all). Not many trees anywhere and that flat prairie landscape doesn't...

I'm so old, as a very young kid (first half of the 50s), I remember Ga Tech being always at the very top of the SEC. They went 59-7-3 with a couple undefeated seasons then. UGA was 28-32-2 in those years.

They're not interested in taking a big pay cut.

Agree. This century, our basketball team has produced a rare double ACC championship (ACC regular season + ACC Tourney) at least; our football team has been pretty much non-competitive in the Conference. In other words, we don't bring very much to the table in terms of leverage.

For a team on the East Coast, traveling to all those distant Big 12 venues is murder. Just ask WVU. No way!!

Always been tied in with the Baptists. From the Baylor Lariat: "Baylor advertises itself as “unapologetically Christian.” While yes, that’s true, I’d argue that the university isn’t necessarily just Christian. It’s Baptist. So. Baptist." Don't want them anywhere near the ACC.

ACC Presidents do not want "rogue" academic institution WVU (always have had low admissions standards).

We can't win in the ACC. What makes u think we'd have even mediocre success in the SEC?

Think Virginia has something similar. UVA would not vote in new ACC members (back when we joined) unless VT was part of the deal.

South Carolina Gamecocks, for decades, were in the ACC. Vandy should move to the ACC as well. Much better "match" for the type of school it is.
