This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Great info! But man...this hurts me to read. I hope the light bulb comes on for these guys.

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

I can see Chaney taking control of the backfield as a very possible scenario. But I also see a bunch of other scenarios that wouldn't surprise me at all. I don't see a need to hold Citizen back. Physically - he's a dude. At 215 he's already our 2nd biggest RB. He's much bigger than...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

A majority of the time (not every time) - the talent level dictates the RB rotation. When Bama/Georgia has a stud RB like Derrick Henry or Deandre Swift - they will dominate carries. If the RB talent is similar, they will rotate. You play to your personnel. But we shouldn't be thinking...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Yeah – basically if a RB isn’t good there’s only so much the scheme & OL can do to help. Unfortunately, Knighton hasn’t been very good at running the ball. I 100% agree – no reason to give up on him. His speed is special so he’ll always be a threat, and he’s shown to be a weapon in the passing...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Except half of Knighton's carries last year came outside the tackles.....and his numbers were worse outside People will keep banging on OL & Scheme - but the simple fact is Knighton has to improve his running style. That tweet makes that fact painfully obvious.

I love this place. You could post a picture of a globe on CIS and people would still see this.

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Thanks for posting! This chart shows the point I've been trying to make. The poor results have been mainly because of Knighton's running style. Here's Kevin Smith coaching up Henry Parrish. If he can get this message through to Knighton, and I hope he does, we'll see better results.

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

    2020 - Cam outplayed Knighton in 2020 with all the same opponents 2021 - Cam outplayed Knighton vs the 2 teams they both played - UVA & UNC: Cam - 20 for 137 yds - 6.9 ypc - 2TD's Knighton - 32 for 136 - 4.3 ypc - 2 TD's Against common opponents - Cam & Chaney played similar, and Cam outplayed...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

The last 2 years: Cam - 197 carries - 8 30+ yd runs Knighton - 197 carries - 1 30+ yd run Same scheme & OL for both. Scheme & OL didn't enable Cam to hit long runs while preventing Knighton from doing the same. Knighton's just not doing it. Now Knighton has 5 30+ yd catches - but the UNC...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

All good - same for me. I agree the coaching & scheme wasn't good - my point is only that Cam was able to do more than Chaney/Knighton with the same situation. I agree coaching & scheme will be better this year - I just think the RB's need to also step up their game too.

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Vs ACC teams under Lashlee: Cam = 123 carries / 7 20+ yd carries / 5 30+ yd carries - 20+ yd run every 17 carries Knighton = 188 carries / 3 20+ yd carries / 1 30+ yd carry - 20+ yd run every 62 carries Cam was too boom or bust & had flaws for sure. Difference is Cam at least hit some HR's &...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Cam stayed on top of the depth chart because of production, not bad coaching. Under Lashlee - Cam - 5.3 ypc - Chaney - 4.6 ypc - Knighton - 3.9 ypc Cam averaged 5.2 ypc under Richt + Enos - so he had similar production in 2 other systems. I could very well be wrong, but that's why I think...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Thing is - no one ever had high expectations for Cody Brown and no one ever made excuses for him. Knighton - they do. When it's a close call - that's when the bias kicks in. Yearby vs Gus, Walton vs Gus, Cam vs Deejay, even Walton vs Homer - the benefit of the doubt will always skew towards...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

You don't have to be great to win the starting role in this room - that's kind of the point of the thread. It's a very winnable depth chart. Chaney & Knighton never beat out or outperformed Cam Harris. Thad barely got carries even when Chaney & Cam were hurt. Parrish has been the most...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

Definitely - Now we're getting somewhere. Knighton's a weapon in the passing game, so let's use him there. Knighton's bad in the run game, so let's use other RB's there (unless he tweaks his style). We have a stable of RB's, so let's play to their strengths. Here's the receiving stats...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

    Exactly - he's running like a 190 lb Fullback. I have no idea why - I just know that's what's happening.

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

The run at 2:53 is a great example of what I'm talking about. - Knighton make his cut 2 yds behind the LOS through a big hole from the OL - His eyes lock onto the defender who is 7-8 yds away & stay locked the whole time - pretty much runs straight to him - Finishes by dropping his head...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

You can say we relied on inside zone too much - without saying "Lashlee only had one running play in our playbook" You can say we rushed 1st down calls in uptempo too often - without saying we did it every time we got a 1st down. It's the dramatic over-exaggerations I don't get.

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

That may be the case - but on the flip side, Knighton would be getting it 10x worse if he wasn't from South Florida. Deejay & Gus definitely got more criticism despite putting up much better #'s thru their Soph years. Knighton is better & more talented than his stats, but at the same time...

This is why Parrish and Franklin have a great opportunity

That's a pass play, not a run - and he had 15 yds between him and the defender. I think Knighton is an absolute weapon in the passing game. The question is - on a run, after Knighton crosses the line of scrimmage, where does he change direction? Show me.
