    I thought he had a good year as a senior. Really solid tackler, although I still have nightmares of the dropped fumble against Notre Dame. Our safety play in 2016 was as strong as we've had in years. But you are correct that good coaching can't turn every good athlete into a good player.

    This is the part that concerns me. Don't understand why he's not being used more given the level of competition. The good thing is that if he doesn't develop on defense, his speed and aggression should fit somewhere on special teams. So that limits his downside a bit.

    It’s a fair point. To me, this corner group needs some pure speed. That’s why I don’t mind upside guys like Good and Bethel. As long as they have the right mindset, I’m cool with developing them. Good likes contact which is hard to coach.

    But leverage and technique can be coached. You can’t coach size and speed. Plus he’s aggressive. A good example would be Tracy Howard v. Chris Henderson. Howard had good technique but average size and speed. Henderson was a track star/running back who was raw on defense. Henderson is turning...

    Gray was strong but not very physical. That’s why I never projected him on defense.
