Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

Would be sad to see for Wong—he has been a solid guy and I do think he got some really bad advice—but letting him go to the portal and then replacing him with someone like Malachi would send a giant message to these agents that this isn't how we do business.

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

Guy is a good player and I was happy when he signed the NIL deal because it looked like he was returning. But this is just a bad move by his side. Going public means Ruiz can't give in because a) it would make him look like a pushover and set precedence, and b) appear that we're paying him for...

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

Oh we agree on the ultimatum, absolutely. And of course no one should go sign a deal and try to renegotiate to weeks later (unless there is a legit massive change to circumstances). We are in full agreement there. My statements were really unrelated to the Wong stuff, more your general statement...

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

I didn't say employees needed to go to the press. Things like Glassdoor and Indeed definitely help. A lot of state schools publicly have their salaries listed. But the fact that employers can require you to give your salary history while refusing to provide a hiring range on a job posting makes...

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

The difference is Ruiz made endorsement announcements to generate excitement. Wong's rep mad a public threat. Plus he just publicly acknowledged he wants a deal to enroll at a school (if not Miami). Completely against NIL policy (as the tweet Heitner tweet said). Schools may not be able to touch...

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

Agreed on the silence. This thing went national immediately and is still on ESPN's front page in the middle of the NFL Draft. If he truly did not agree with it, he has had ample time to make a statement. His silence is telling.

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

Maybe overstepping, but he speaks for his client. Hard to believe Wong didn't approve this, especially with him testing the NBA waters just this week as well. Sounds like he didn't get the grade he wanted and now wants more money. And if his agent did indeed do something against Wong's wishes...

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

So Ruiz helping land big time transfers and recruits won’t help us win? Love or hate Ruiz, the guy is generating buzz for our program (all of them). You want his money but not what comes with it. You just want a traditional bagman. He is actually doing exactly what NIL is intended for: paying...

Wong trying to pull up on Ruiz

Who do you think is more important right now? Wong or Ruiz? I also don’t think Mims publicly asked for more money. Maybe it was made clear in back channels, but the Wong thing going national is because he’s pretty much the first to make a threat. Have to let him walk.

And that’s exactly why salaries have stayed fairly stagnant for decades, not remotely keeping up with inflation. It’s exactly what employers want.
