In addition to the previous comment by @PanteraCanes, you also open yourself up to a civil action if you intervene and someone is injured. I'm not saying that was going through his head, but it's the reality of the situation.

A male perpetrator would not have gotten such a lenient plea deal.

I don't believe in parole or rehabilitation. But @Memnon brought up a salient point, namely, that for some, life isn't the punishment we think it is. And I added that Florida and Louisiana style prisons nowadays are not the norm. I'd never wanna be in that position, but a lot of facilities...

And you're right: I was projecting the prison conditions of Florida and Louisiana onto the country. That's just not accurate.

I hear you, I just don't trust these people. They inevitably experience culture shock, and then most (in my observation) then want everything/everyone to morph into [insert state of origin] but with better weather.
